This weekend presents a great line-up of fights just in time for the start of the holiday season. We start the weekend in Mississippi with Strikeforce’s latest Challengers installment, the main event of which could be a real treat with 4-time BJJ world champion Vitor Riberio taking on AKA prospect Justin Wilcox.
The card also features TUF vets Wes Shivers and the explosive Antwain Britt, as well as women’s division fighter Jan Finney’s first bout since her brutal loss to Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos earlier in the year.
Riberio is coming off a somewhat controversial split decision loss to Lyle Beerbohm in May, while the Edinboro wrestling product, Wilcox, is riding a 4-fight win streak into Friday’s bout. The deciding factor in this bout will be the ability for Wilcox to manage to control the fight without being caught in the dangerous submission game of the Nova União product. Wilcox has struggled with being caught in armbars in his 15 fights and Riberio will likely be looking for this, since guard work will be more likely against the Division I wrestler.
Also in action will be Marius Zaromskis trying to end a two fight slide against another fighter struggling as of late in Waachiim Spiritwolf. The “Whitemare” will look to regain the striking form that earned him last January’s shot at the Strikeforce welterweight belt against Nick Diaz. Spiritwolf enters the fight on a two fight losing streak of his own and will look to negate the Lithuanians striking advantage early and often.
Strikeforce Challengers 12 takes take place Friday in Jackson, Mississippi and will air on Showtime at 10PM ET (tape-delayed on the west coast) .
