After recently being pulled from January’s UFC 125, heavyweight Roy Nelson will be out of UFC action indefinitely as The Ultimate Fighter 10 winner must first settle outside contract issues before he can return to the Octagon.
Nelson is reportedly tied to Roy Jones Jr.’s Square Ring Promotions after headlining the boxer’s March 2009 “March Badness” event against Jeff Monson, but UFC President Dana White offered few details to MMAjunkie on when the issue could be resolved.
“These guys go out and sign with these rinky-dink little promotion companies and sign these bad contracts, and let’s just say Roy Nelson is involved in a bad contract right now that he had before,” White said.
After scoring back-to-back wins over Brendan Schaub and Stefan Stuve to start his UFC career, Nelson (15-5) dropped a unanimous decision to heavyweight contender Junior dos Santos in August.
“Big Country” was left without an opponent for UFC 125 after Shane Carwin withdrew from the co-headliner to undergo back surgery and the UFC then pulled Nelson from the card as they work to settle the contract issues.
