A planned rubber match between former heavyweight champions Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir may not be on tap after all, as UFC President Dana White said after Saturday’s UFC 122 that he would re-think the matchup after hearing from fans.
“People have been saying on my Twitter that they’re not happy with that fight,” White told MMAjunkie. “It’s something I need to re-think.”
On Friday, White told fans the matchup “made sense” after Lesnar dropped the title to Cain Velasquez last month and Mir rebounded with a third-round KO of veteran Mirko Cro Cop in September.
Mir (14-5) spoiled Lesnar’s UFC debut in February 2008 with a first-round kneebar of the former wrestling star, but Lesnar (5-2) avenged the loss with a second-round TKO of Mir in July 2009.
