what happened to 124??? not that good!!!! could be a very low seller. the cards right after are so good?? what where they thinking!!!

  • kable9405 says:

They better throw a good co-main event. I know there is not that much time left, but im hoping for a better co-main event. Maybe throw Mir,Nelson or Schaub.

    • bsbiz says:

Oh yeah. I can imagine that phone call now:

DW: Hey Frank, it’s Dana. I know it’s kind of short notice, but would you mind fighting Roy Nelson? Some guy on this website is unhappy with the UFC 124 fight card.

FM: Dude, that sounds awesome. Let me drop everything, get into tip-top shape so that guy is not disappointed with anything and get right on it. Thanks for the phone call.

DW: Hey Roy, it’s Dana. How are you doing?

RN: Hey Dana. I’m still a little sore from the beating I took from Junior Dos Santos a few months ago and was only cleared to start training again three or four weeks ago. But other than that, I’m doing well. How about yourself?

DW: Well, there’s this guy on this website who’s not happy with the UFC 124 fight card and I was wondering if you could fight Frank Mir so he doesn’t have anything to whine about.

RN: Yeah. Absolutely. I’ll make sure I abbreviate my camp just so that random guy is happy.

DW: Whew. I’m glad that is taken care of. I hope random guy is happy and doesn’t complain any more.

now that’s funny!! nothing wrong with this card at all. Even undercard looks good. Hazelett vs Bocek should be excellent fight. Look, if you didn’t look at opponents and saw GSP, Kos, Alves, Stevenson, Skyscraper Struve, you would think this has makings of great card. UFC knows what they are doing, and most of time when the card doesn’t seem up to par, those turn out to be the best fights.

    • Newfie says:

Thats what I’ve been saying for awhile, people will complain about a card not being stacked, and some of those are the best cards with the best fights. Flip side…Some cards look awesome with a lot of “name” fighters and turn out to be not very good, somwewhat boring events.

  • Markus J says:

Week card but it doesn’t matter because it’s Montreal and it will be a sellout regardless. On top of that the UFC is expecting high PPV buys for the GSP/Kos fight alone.

Problem I am seeing with the UFC right now is that they are holding too many events in too close of proximity with each other. With all the recent rash of injuries and a lot of the well known fighters being “let go” we are seeing cards put together full of unknown fighters…..

    • TC says:

That’s why the merger of WEC…..

      • Newfie says:

TC, Was going to say something similar, if Markus J thinks there are too many events now watch out. As far as I know the ufc is very close to making some deals which will have them putting on even more events. We already have Spike showing TUF finales, Fight night cards, and fight for the troops, as well as the ufc on versus shows. Soon there is going to be even more…and you know what? There is no way I am going to complain about more ufc!

      • Newfie says:

oops, didn’t finish my thought there…I agree with you TC, probably one of the main reasons for the merger, with ufc having more and more events now they have more talent to fill out the cards. I am personally very excited to get to see the lower weight classes on my UFC cards.

  • "that Guy is my hero" says:

I hope gsp beats kos’s a##. That is why the ppv will be huge!!!

  • will says:

I think this is an awesome looking card. Especially considering a guy like Big Sexy McCorkle. Prior to his Mark Hunt fight, people only knew him from forum posting on the interwebz and now he is a co-main event. That is a pretty impressive story. Looking forward to seeing the crazy a$$ style of Oliveira, stand up war between Stevenson and Danzig (FOTN right there), if Alves makes 170, and I guess there’s a title fight on this card too.

Also, if people think cards are full of “Unknowns”, then take some time and research these fighters, look for videos of their previous fights, and then they won’t be “Unknowns”. That’s the great thing about the internets, if you are smart enough to know what you are looking for, you have a good chance of finding it.

A fighter i’ve been following is Makdessi out of Montreal, interesting guy, gold medalist in the olympics(Tae Kwon Do), 22-0 kickboxer and presently 7-0 MMA record…for sure a great addition to an already stacked 155 division…exciting stuff…things don’t always go well your first gig in the UFC but this guy is going to be great.
Pretty good fight for the undercard in Hazelett/Bocek, should be quite a display of Jits…i give Dustin the edge on the ground, card shaping up nicely.

    • will says:

Looked up some vids on that dude, killer striking. How is his ground game? Hopefully good cause Awesomely Awesome will want to take the fight to the ground.

      • mikewh says:

John “The Bulls” ground game is improving all the time, especially dealing with Tristar gym and using the same coaches as GSP. He prefers to stand up as that is his strength, has an excellent sprawl and pops up to his feet very quick if taken down.
He’s still a young guy in the sport, it’s been 3 years in MMA and all 7 wins are by KO so far…but we know the waters run deepest in the UFC.
He is one of the most exciting strikers i have seen at 155.

      • will says:

Nice! Thanks for the info bro.

  • jcohl says:

I guess all I can add here is the usual, “don’t buy the PPV or a ticket if you don’t like the card”.
This way you can be the guy all the other MMA fans laugh at post-124…
    ;-)

  • jazz says:

Koschek’s getting his a$$ completely handled by my boy GSP.

    Enough said

  • Jason N. says:

This will be said by Joe Rogan at the end of the night…

Ladies and Gentlemen…welcome to the AKA Era….

Because not only does AKA have the new Heavyweight Champ, in the underdog Cain Velasquez… the underdog Ryan Bader will defeat Jon Jones, then finally, the trio will happen… Josh Koscheck upsets GSP to become the new champion…

Sure, I am a homer bc I am a KOS fan… but with that said.. wow this card is not good… GSP would say something like, I am not impressed by this card’s performance… (at the end of the night when he is belt-less)…

I will still buy it but yea, I hope they add 1 more good fight.. if not, atleast make the Alves/Howard fight the co-main event.. that will be explosive!

    • mikewh says:

I humbly disagree with you on a couple of things, i see a few great bouts on this card but what’s your MMA drug of choice.
This card has a bit of everything to me…maybe it’s the Canadian content that turns you off, they tend to do that in Montreal events but tell me which main event fight is not good, IMO there’s even a few good pre lims.
If you like strikers you should enjoy Maddessi’s debut.
I also look forward to Bones/Bader and it will be a sick fight indeed…enjoy!

    • jcohl says:

      @jason n. -
You could of course be right about Josh Koscheck beating GSP [although I highly doubt it], but how does Ryan Bader beating Jon Jones [which again I highly doubt] rep AKA?
Best as I can determine Ryan Bader is a former Arizona Combat Sports guy, who left with several other ACS fighters like Aaron Simpson and CB Dolloway after the ACS meltdown earlier this year.
Those guys and a few others were set to temporarily train at the Lion’s Den in Scottsdale until their new gym was ready to go, which I believe it now is.
Not trying to be a d!ck here, just asking the question…

      • Jason N. says:

It has nothing to do with it… more so i was on like 14hrs of work with no sleep… and had Ryan Bader confused with Jon Fitch.. eh.. both wrestlers right?? :)

        My bad…

Still…. I believe KOS will win, and AKA will produce champs this yr… I do think Fitch will go to 185 in 2011…

This card is OK.. not great… I guess ive been spoiled from cards as of late… but Joe Daddy vs Mac… eh… big names, sure.. but Mac is no where near Joe Daddy in talent… Alves.. fighting big names… KOS, GSP, Fitch..now…. John Howard???? Sure.. he has been on a tear and I am looking fwd to the fight.. just not an amazing card… and just to re-confirm… I am buying this card…. no doubt about it…

  • petterson says:

ehhh, 5 broadcast fights already, so whats the co-main event?

  • christ says:

i wouldnt care if main event was gsp vs. bruce buffer as long as ufc comes 2 kansas city mo.

  • willyt says:

stefan struve in co main event? this card has to add another fight

  • Caleb says:

Just take a look at the main cards for 123, 125, and 126 and tell me straight faced Montreal got a good card! So much for being the “Mecca of MMA” according to Dana White…this is what multiple sold out events and die hard fans earns you??? I guess if they know it will sell out anyways, they can load a bunch of otherwise pre lim worthy fights on there, as long as GSP is in the main event.

Struve or Fat Alves in the co main event… guess the fans can at least see it as a prime piss break opportunity to not miss a second of the main event!
