The Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale: Matt Arroyo vs. John Kolosci
MMAFrenzy.com has confirmed that Matt Arroyo will take on John Kolosci this Saturday at The Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale in Las Vegas. The event airs live on Spike TV beginning at 9pm and includes a main event bout between lightweights Clay Guida and Roger Huerta as well as the finals of the welterweight tournament.
Arroyo (2-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was a semi-finalist on the sixth season of the reality series but was unable to face Mac Danzig in the semi-finals after suffering a rib injury while preparing for the fight. Though the doctors did not require him to drop out of the fight he felt the injury significantly affected his ability to fight and opted to withdraw. The move was criticized by UFC President Dana White on the episode but with his injury now healed Arroyo will be appearing on this weekend’s live finale.
Kolosci (8-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was tapped as Arroyo’s replacement in the semi-final bout against Danzig. Kolosci won his opening round fight against Billy Miles but was defeated by Danzig in the quarter-finals. After Arroyo withdrew from following his rib injury Kolosci expressed interest in getting a chance to avenge his loss to Danzig and was awarded the bout. Though he eventually lost the rematch as well Kolosci won praises for stepping up to fight Danzig, the most experienced contestant on the show, twice.

This is frickin awsome. I am soooo rootin for Tommy Speer. He is now one of my favorite fighters. The guy is a great fighter and his attitude is great. I know he is gonna be a great fighter in the time to come, even if he doesnt beat Danzig.
On a lighter note….hell yeah Hughes first and last fighter….Team Hughes wins!!!
The Kolosci/Danzig rematch was a joke…Kolosci did absolutely NOTHING different and lost the match the same exact way he lost the first one…a whole lot of hype for nothing.
what a cop out by matt… but whatever
I don’t believe Matt A. was so injured that he couldn’t have gotten in the ring, as opposed to coming out looking like a chump. I like the dude, but it looked like a cop-out to me too.
I have wrestled with an injured rib and believe Matt A made the right choice. The injury limits your capacity to use your upper body. It is more than merely pain, but a limitation of motion. He couldn’t possibly have won, or even have put on a good show. He made the professional choice.
I agree Dan and I think even beyond that you have to consider his ability to breathe. Event though it’s only guaranteed to go two rounds it would be difficult to breathe heavy and he had his future to consider.
There was no reason to go in and get injured further without being able to put up a good fight when you know you have a UFC fight on the finale and likely at least another fight after that one win or lose. It was better to be prepared for that fight than risk injury and loss and be left of the card all together.
I have had cracked and bruised ribs before, and I had to sleep sitting up in a chair. He didn’t look that bad off, but only he knows. He made it far enough to get a shot at performing well on the finale, which has been enough for a lot of fighters (Leben, Jardine) I like Kolossci, but if he hasn’t improved his game, he is gonna get choked (AGAIN!)

When you get to the semifinals all fights are automatic 3 round fights, even if one guy wins the first 2 rounds you still fight a 3rd round.
