Carlos Condit vs. Chris Lytle In The Works, Targeted for UFC 127 in February
Fresh off of recent wins, rising welterweights Carlos Condit and Chris Lytle are expected to go toe-to-toe early next year.
Sportsnet.ca first reported the matchup for UFC 126, but the fight now appears likely for UFC 127 on Feb. 27 in Australia.
Condit (26-5) scored a first-round knockout of fellow contender Dan Hardy last month at UFC 120, while Lytle (30-17-5) avenged a loss to Matt Serra with a unanimous decision over the former champ in September.
Now riding a three-fight win streak, Condit recently turned down a matchup with Jon Fitch, who will instead face Jake Ellenberger, saying he wanted more time off and proposing a matchup with Lytle, who has won four-straight.

Wow… Huge opportunity for Lytle… major slap in the face for Condit!
I love Lytle.. but come on.. there was rumblings that Condit could get a title shot with the victory over Hardy (and if Kampman would have won)… but now he gets Lytle?!?! Yea, the guy has improved… but I dont think he is in the top 5 at 170… just my opinion
Rumors are that Condit turned down a proposed fight with Fitch, that was his choice…
Of course Condit turned down a fight with Jon Fitch.
Who needs their career stalled by getting ground down to nothingness for 15 minutes and catching the bad side of a UD?
;-)
Major step down for “The Natural Born Killer”. Both make for entertaining fights but Lytle has nothing to lose here where as if Condit loses, he will be working his way back up. I am convinced that Condit should really be facing the winner of Kos and GSP or at least a bout with Shields.
Lytle has shown major improvement, and has won 4 in a row! I think this is a great match-up for both guys. Lytle did just beat a former champ, after all….
I called this fight with Tom last week!!
GOOD FOR YOU NO ONE CARES! WHAT THE F*** IS YOUR POINT ANYWAY THAT YOUR SOOOOOO SMART AND KNOW EVERYTHING!!
@mcwtlg
I don’t think this is major step down for Condit at all, in fact I think Chris Lytle wins this fight. His striking might be better than Condits, and his Jiujitsu is sick.. Have you not watched his last few fights with the submission of the night against Matt Brown, then beating Matt Serra? Aside fromt he KO of Hardy which a split second earlier could’ve easily been him laying on the mat instead of Hardy. I’m a Condit fan after watching him in WEC, and he comes to bring it every time he fights. But i don’t think after one big win in the ufc this fight with Lytle is a step down at all.
Your right that Lytle has nothing to lose here, but if he can make sure he doesn’t get taken down for some GNP, I think he’s a better striker and the striking will be neutralized. This is my pick for fight of the night at this point.. Lytle just doesn’t have the big name, but I just don’t think this is a step down at all.
@flying squirrel
Thank you for giving Lytle a little credit, which IMO he has well deserved. To me, this fight has all the ingredients to be fight of the year. Both men are always relentless but I will give Lytle the nod on his underrated ground game. 2 subs in 3 fights (who can forget that nasty kneebar of Brian Foster) and a decisive win over Serra (who was supposed to smoke him) definately put him in the mix IMO. This is an amazing matchup, as both men are dangerous everywhere.
NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU THINK SIR! QUIT WASTEING YOUR LIFE TRYING TO MAKE IT FEEL WHOLE AGAIN BY PUTTING YOUR FEELINGS ON HERE!! PATHETIC NERD!
Winner get sheilds for title fight that’s what I think. Shields should not be fighting for the title after 121 performance!!
I think that’s what most of us think…except DW of course.
^^Agreed
Shields needs another fight before he gets the honor of getting his a$$ whooped by my boy GSP =)
It’s funny how condit turned down THE TRUE #! contender Jon Fitch because of the lack of time to prepare, BUT is now booked on the SAME card as fitch against a fighter who isn’t at the top of the division.
Poor decision on condit’s part. A win over Fitch and he would have gotten a title shot. A win over Lytle isn’t going to get you a title shot. And on top of that, Lytle could actually BEAT condit cuz he’s a well rounded fighter and tough like he11.
@jazz -
You’re right of course that beating Fitch rockets you into contention, but IMO Condit has almost no chance with Fitch, who would do to him what he’s done to everyone else in the last [nearly] 8 years that isn’t named GSP…
;-)
Oh man this a great fight. Huge fan of condit,
I don’t think lytle is a step down IMO I think he could
Beat hardy if they fought.
WOW this is no doubt gonna be Fight of the Night! Love both these guys, very similar fighters, I say Lytle UD but who knows
Great fight I give it to Condit.
It’s nice to see Lytle in the title mix.
who the hell wants to fight fitch?? 7 of his last 8 he won by decision and the other 1 he lost by decision… Jon Fitch = SPOONER!!!
imo… of corse (dbiz)
Haven’t I warned you all about posting sh!t about Jon Fitch?
What, did you think I would let it slide just this once?
That would be no…
;-)
This is gonna be an awesome fight, much better than Fitch vs Condit. Fitch needs to fight someone like Matt Hughes, one of the very few guys who has the wrestling to take it to him. I much rather see the winner of Lytle v Condit get the winner of GSP v Sheilds. So I’m hoping Fitch loses even though I know he wont. No matter who wins, GSP win destroy all of them. Back to Condit v lytle, def could be fight of the year, I can wait!
I think Carlos Condit’s move over to Greg Jackson has created a monster… He seems to be so confident in his skills that he’s calling out some really dangerous competition… He called out Hardy and completely beat him at his own game… Now he’s calling out Lytle to, I dunno, out-Lytle him? Maybe he hasn’t fully developed a sound gameplan for Fitch yet, but I’m sure he will. Mark my words- I think we’re looking at only the beginnings of the new-and-still-improving Carlos Condit. I predict a win over Lytle by sub or UD. I am really feeling his gangsta right now ;)
I believe i called this fight before lytle fought hardy ;) im am very excited because i am a huge lytle fan and not many people gave him a chance against serra and we all saw what happened and i belive he will have a chance to shock everyone again… winnner should get #1 contender fight at least imo!
I’m actually annoyed that Condit turned down the fight with Fitch (if this is indeed true). It if is true, it makes me question his motives, if he does indeed want to fight GSP / get his title shot.
Think about it.
Who would actually WANT to fight Jon Fitch?
No one other than GSP has been able to handle getting Fitch-slapped in the cage since the end of 2002.
Sure, there is always the chance that Condit could catch Fitch, but the chances are a LOT higher that Fitch would first ground and then grind Condit into both a hard-to-watch UD loss and a return to titular semi-relevance.
When you consider what Dana White has done to Fitch professionally and promotionally, its pretty clear that there are a lot of other ways for a 170 fighter in the UFC to get a title shot, like beating Mike Swick or winning a title fight on a reality TV show…
;-)
It’s a wiser decision for Condit to fight Lytle right now and get
some more training with GSP to work on his wrestling skills and
takedown defense before stepping in the cage with Fitch. Maybe fight
him later on next year if/when he gets past Lytle which will be
no easy task.
Chris Lytle is a fantastic fighter and has never been given the credit he deserves, the man goes out there every ight and figts his ass off. He is an exceptional fighter with an exceptional ground game that he seems not to have the ability to finish with. I don’t know what stops him or what gets in his way but he doesn’t seem to have the ability to finish anyone and always goes to decisions. I’d love to see him win a few and get a chance at the belt but I’d like to see him move to the jackson camp and get the help he needs to get to the next level. He has the skills and the heart but something in missing from his game and I think he will get it from a different camp who has a different perspective on his game. I really think he has what it takes if he can tighten up his game and get his finishes up to par with his heart.
