Chris Leben Arrested on Suspicion of DUI Following Crash Ahead of UFC 125 Fight

Chris LebenUFC middleweight Chris Leben has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing his truck on Tuesday near Honolulu, Hawaii ahead of his scheduled fight against Brian Stann at UFC 125 on New Years Day, Hawaii News Now reported Wednesday.

Leben, who was also driving without a license and insurance, is slated to appear before a judge on Nov. 22 after being released on $1,000 bond.

“The Crippler” was previously sentenced to 35 days in jail in 2008 after violating his probation for a previous DUI.

Leben (25-6) has followed up back-to-back losses with three-straight wins, including victories over Aaron Simpson and Yoshihiro Akiyama just two weeks apart this past summer.

wooooowww.I have been a fan of chris leben since he started.hopefully the dui allegation is wrong.im ready to c him back in the ring and this really aint helpn at all

  • dbiz says:

Well that isn’t going to help that particular card.

  • Truemmafan says:

Is this guy as dumb as he sounds and looks? He gets 3 straight wins with impressive performances and he goes and does this? I may be naive but isnt hawaii very very small and the use of a car isnt essential and im sure its not like some of his training partners or mates could drive him especially as his license and insurance are oviously void.

Please grow up and take your career seriously cause your a hard mo fo who has talent.

How can he be arrested on “suspicion” of DUI. Surely he’s either over the limit or he’s not? How can the suspect he is and make an arrest as a consequence.

Maybe the law is different in Hawaii but where i’m from, if you are suspected of being over thew legal drinking limit you are breathalised. Red light indicates arrest green light and its away you go.

Cmon Leben..just when you gaining so much respect from MMA fans..that is dissapointing news

I agree, just when I thought MAYBE he had matured a little and then he goes and does this, disappointed is a good way to put it. I make mistakes, you make mistakes, but most of us learn from them, what was he thinking? Not only was he drinking and driving, he was driving a vehicle he shouldn’t have been driving even if he was sober (no license, no insurance). Grow the f… up!

I wonder what he’ll get, if he gets the same 35 day sentence he’ll be out in time for ufc125, but his training partners will have to be Bruno and Big Bubba and he’ll have to train in the “yard”. I know there are conjugal visits, I wonder if he could get conjugal training? LMAO. Maybe once a week his trainers could spend the weekend with him getting him ready, that would be some pretty dedicated coaches.

I’m a Leben supporter, but this guy just doesn’t want to grow up apparently. I thought he moved his training camp a while back to get away from all that stuff, and focus on his game. this is disappointing, and DW does not like stuff like this at all, so expect him to be off this card, especially if he’s guilty, and at least we now know which fight is being taken off of the main card at this ppv. No more speculating on that.

  • MMAHawk says:

I’m not a Leben fan…but I do respect his game….but I find myself wondering that everytime he get’s a taste of success, he seems to self sabotage himself with some sort of drama.

Maybe Leben is afraid to be successful….because you don’t seem to hear about him doing anything bad when he’s on the slide.

Like I said, not a fan, but I hate to see a guy piss away his opportunities like this after putting on some damn good fights.

  • Andrew says:

Leben just crippled himself in the ufc Point of view.

  • reinier says:

    wtf cris, grow up!!!

  • Fitguy says:

I like him, but c’mon can he really be that stupid? Er, yes he can….The UFC has given him chances (steroids, arrests} but he must realize this is not the NFL!

  • jcohl says:

We don’t know all the facts yet, but this sure doesn’t look good.
We had previously been told that Leben relocated to Hawaii to “clean up his life”, and that move had been by and large successful.
Hopefully this is some sort of misunderstanding, and if not Leben gets back on track as soon as possible.
I’m not sure if he was in treatment or hitting meetings regularly or checking in with his sponsor, but maybe it was a case of the spotlight forcing leben back into bad habits…

    • Newfie says:

I know we don’t know all the facts, so I don’t want to jump the gun. Maybe he only had a drink or 2, and thought it might be better to refuse the breathalizer than risk blowing over.

BUT, as long as everything in the story was reported accurately (Kris, I’m not implying otherwise, just sayin) then he was still driving a vehicle without a license or insurance. Even if he was sober he’s risking an awful lot just to get from point A to B. It could even be looked at worse if he was sober, at least if he was drinking he could argue not knowing better.

  • japes78 says:

I’m not excusing what he (allegedly) did, but Chris Leben has some demons… I thought he had himself doing well and it was obvious his fight game is the best it’s ever been. It was evident he had some major personal issues from TUF 1- That’s one of the reasons I pull for the dude- but I just hope he can get himself together.

It would be incredible what the guy could have accomplished with his skills and chin minus the booze.

  • LogTan11 says:

Not sure…but maybe his license is suspended…but at the very least he needs to be a responsible adult and have some damn car insurance(I know he can afford it). And if your license is suspended…DON’T DRIVE!

  • frantzfanon says:

Have to say, I’m mightily disappointed.

  • Tom says:

If this is true than he still has some issues that need to be dealt with and sooner than later I hope. Leben has impressed me his last few bout out and I would hate to see him go backwards instead of forwards.

Please Chris Leben have the strength to get back on the right track. We would all love to see your feet touch ground. That’s what would be best for everyone and especially yourself. Good luck and good health, mentally and physically.

  • JigglyPuff says:

Leben is a bad ass, and that’s why I love him.

Hopefully White will let him brawl still in January.
