Steve Cantwell has been forced off tomorrow’s UFC 120 and his light heavyweight matchup with newcomer Stanislav Nedkov has been scrapped from the card after suffering a last-minute knee injury in training, Fighters Only reports.
The injury marks the latest setback for the former WEC champ Cantwell (7-3), who ended 2009 with back-to-back losses to Luiz Cane and Brian Stann before having his January return against Vladimir Matyushenk scrapped by a career-threatening medical issue.
Though he was eventually cleared to return, Cantwell was pulled from July’s UFC 116 and is now sidelined indefinitely with the torn knee ligament.
Nedkov will still be paid his show money for the canceled fight.

It’s good that the UFC still pays a guy when his opponent has to pull out at the last minute, of course he’s missing out on a possibly bigger pay day with a win bonus or fight night bonus. But hey he’s still getting paid and can spend the night watching the other fights.
Can someone tell me about Nedkov as a fighter? Was he favoured to win this fight?
I just took a look at his fight history, says he’s 11-0 but I only recognize a few of his opponents, Wiuff and Randleman(SD), probably because he started his career 7-0 in his native Bulgaria. He’s got an impressive record though, 5 ko’s, 4 subs, 2 decs, last three subs were rnc’s. Considering he signed in June and still hasn’t fought in the UFC (first was an injury he suffered) hopefully they find an opponent for him on an upcoming card.
sometimes karma is a b. thats why you shouldnt be all happy when you seriously hurt someone!!! the sport is about seeing who would win this matchup not trying mess up someones life. cantwell will never be great anyway. and thats exactly why all the higher weight classes in the wec got scraped because if your best people are brian stann and cantwell.
oh yeah they did have a filho that didnt even want at his opp. during the fight! and a chael who still couldnt finish him.
Looks like Cantwell is taking James Irvin’s place as “The UFC’s most cursed fighter.”
Amir Sadollah had to have that title for a while anyways.
Not a good news. A really wanted to see Nedkov’s fight and it’s second time he is not fighting. I guess will have to wait for another UFC event :-(
Its almost like Steve Cantwell p!ssed off some voodoo chick down in the bayou or something…
