The Ultimate Fighter 12 Episode 5 Recap for “Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck”

After seeing Team GSP stay in control with Kyle Watson’s win over Andy Main on last week’s episode, Team Koscheck returns to training with guest welterweight contender Jon Fitch in hopes of scoring their first win of the season.

After a Team GSP training session with rough French Muay Thai specialist Jean Charles Skarbowsky, coach Georges St-Pierre chooses Spencer Paige to face Team Koscheck’s Nam Phan in the latest preliminary bout.

After another pair of training sessions, Paige and Phan head to the Octagon for their lightweight matchup.

Paige gets off to a strong start as he drops Phan with a barrage of leg kicks, but Phan recovers and connects with punches and kicks of his own before catching a kick and tripping Paige to the ground, where he unloads with ground and pound to end the round.

Paige tries to get back on track to begin the second, but injuries to his legs and hand limit his offense and Phan takes control, beating him up with punches, body shots, and high kicks as he pushes the pace throughout the final round.

Despite a slow start, Phan earns a deserved decision from the judges for Team Koscheck’s first win of the season, but they upset Team GSP with their celebration.

Next week on The Ultimate Fighter 12, four more lightweights will meet in two of the final three preliminary bouts.
