Jakes Shields Likely to Get Title Shot with UFC 121 Win

Jake Shields Weigh-inWith Josh Koscheck set to challenge Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight title at December’s UFC 124, Jake Shields could earn a shot at the winner if he gets past Martin Kampmann in his Octagon debut next Saturday at UFC 121.

“If Jake Shields should win against Martin Kampmann, it will probably be him next,” UFC President Dana White announced at today’s UFC 124 press conference.

Shields (25-4-1) vacated Strikeforce’s middleweight title to join the UFC after pushing his win streak to 14-straight with an April win over veteran Dan Henderson, while Kampmann (17-3) has won 4 of his last 5, including a June win over Paulo Thiago.

Fellow contender Jon Fitch had recently campaigned to fight the Shields-Kampmann winner for the next title shot.
