A welterweight fight between The Ultimate Fighter 5 winner Nate Diaz and undefeated Dong Hyun Kim is in the works for “UFC 125: Edgar vs. Maynard 2″ on January 1 in Las Vegas, according to mfight.co.kr.
Diaz (13-5) outpointed Marcus Davis at August’s UFC 118 for his second-straight win since moving up to 170-pounds following a January loss to lightweight contender Gray Maynard.
Kim (13-0-1) has rebounded from a loss-turned-no contest to Karo Parisyan with back-to-back wins, including a unanimous decision over Amir Sadollah in May, but was forced to withdraw from the upcoming UFC 120 in July with an undisclosed injury.
The UFC 125 fight card is headlined by lightweight champ Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard and also includes Shane Carwin vs. Roy Nelson.

Damn this card just keeps getting better!
I like this matchup a lot because kim’s a guy who could neutralize diaz’s jitz. Diaz still has those annoying long arms of his though. Still, should be a great fight!
My thoughts exactly, Nice Jazz.
Nate beat marcus by submission in the 3rd not points. And nate will also submit kim
Its going to be a tough fight for both Diaz and Kim. Should be a good fight.
Im very excited for this fight, Im expecting good things. I think Diaz will out box him with that reach and those pitty patt punches andif it goes to the ground i believe Diaz will finish it… Either way i got Nate taking this one.
Go Kim. Knock the lisp out of his mouth.
@dbiz – can you actually use a “stun gun” to remedy a speech impediment?
;)
Gimme a taser and put me in Stockton and we might find out.
^^ amen
I think dong hyun kim has this fight in the bag…..anybody thinking diaz is going to pitter patter kim must never watch kim fight because that will not happen.
im with u brother. im pretty sure nate wont have any reach advantage. but i have no idea how good Stun Gun’s BJJ defense compares against a cesar gracie guy like diaz. if stun gun decides to trade it’ll b a really good fight.
split decision kim(really really close, kim wins due to a few takedowns, diaz will prolly show superior striking, but dong still holds his own trading and hurts diaz a few times.)
Stylistically, this is a bad match-up for Diaz in my opinion.
I see Kim doing the same thing he did to Sadollah and
winning by decision.
I think its important for Kim to use his wrestling and judo skills to make sure he doesn’t get caught in a scramble or on the mat, where Diaz can possibly hook and submit him.
If Kim can keep the fight standing, he stands a good chance of winning…
nate diaz has always seemed to have bad body conditioning he always looks skinny, i feel against a good apponent like kim he will struggle as kim will have the strength and skill to neutralise all diazs attributes, however as diaz is my favourite fighter i feel he has the heart and character to prove his skill over kim and hopefully destroy georges st pierre which wud be an easier fight for diaz than kim
You really think Nate Diaz could easily whip GSP? I think you are smoking some serious crack!
