UFC 80 To Air on Pay-Per-View
According to the official UFC website, UFC.com, UFC 80 “Rapid Fire” will air live on pay-per-view on January 19th. Many fans believed the event would follow other recent European UFC events and air for free on Spike TV but that doesn’t appear to be the case – at least not yet. Past events have alternated broadcasting plans several times so this is by no means set in stone.
MMA Junkie has spoken to a representative from a cable company who confirmed the event will air on PPV but that it will likely air on tape-delay at 10pm ET.
The event (and possibly the PPV broadcast) begins at 3pm ET and is headlined by an interim title bout between lightweights BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson.

This comes to as a shock for me, if UFC 80 is not free on Spike TV. I would still order the PPV if it wasn’t free, but most of us would rather have UFC 80 free on Spike TV, even though the commercials during the telecast get to be annoying.
I was thinking that it would have been a good event for CBS or NBC to “break in” to the fight telecast game. I guess it could still happen?
They (Dana) will announce during ‘79′ that he decided to make it a free show. He’ll make a big appeal to the fans and say how he had to fight to get the producers to show it for free. This will increase the fans’ view of Dana and then everyone will be happy. (hopefully)
It’s almost worth paying just so you don’t have to sit there watching the same 5 commercials over and over.
Disappointing especially for Spike I’m sure. If the PPV numbers are lower like the last delayed PPV, hopefully they’ll revert to a free broadcast next time as they have in the past.
gehy
eddie i agree. also like watching the fighter enterances.
vampslayr- i think the ppv in ireland had low rating because they showed it live. so the time over here was around noon. maybe they should have showed it delayed.
You make some great points holy_dave and I agree with you on all of them. I just hope you’re right.
