Strikeforce Signs Jorge Masvidal to Six-Fight Deal

Jorge MasvidalDespite dropping a decision to former UFC welterweight Paul Daley over the weekend, Jorge Masvidal has signed a six-fight deal to return to Strikeforce’s lightweight division, the promotion has confirmed.

After going 2-0 in Strikeforce from ’06 to ’07, Masvidal (20-6) has gone 6-4 while competing in the likes of Sengoku in Japan, Bellator, and most-recently Shark Fights, where he dropped a close unanimous decision to Daley at Saturday’s Shark Fights 13.

Holding notable wins over Joe Lauzon, Ryan Schultz, and Yves Edwards, Masvidal joins a 155-pound division that includes champ Gilbert Melendez, former title-holder Josh Thomson, and KJ Noons, who is moving up to challenge welterweight champ Nick Diaz next month.

Details on Masvidal’s return have not been announced.
