Wow. Another night, more bad judges.

dang sokoudjou almost had it gotta give cred to alexander for the comeback

  • leonor says:

Jardine needs to wrap the gloves up

    • Avatar of jazz jazz says:

Scott what are you talking about dude? Don’t hate on houston alexander bro.
That was the best comeback in history and it’s not houston’s fault that sokodju gassed out and it’s not sokodjus fault that houstons heart was bigger on this night.

Jardine should become a trainer. The guy doesn’t “pull the trigger”. Prangley won that fight without question so congrats to him.

Anyone else notice that larson looked he11a off tonight?

      • Scott says:

Jazz – I’m hating on Houston because he blatantly cheated. The headbutts at the end of the first were cheap and flat-out dangerous, and then he had a fist full of Soko’s dreds so that he could hold onto him and land all those punches right before the finish.

I don’t question Houston’s heart, nor am I saying Soko looked good other than the first three minutes…none of that changes the fact that Houston flat out broke the rules and the ref was too incompetent to do anything about it. And I didn’t even touch on the late stoppage.

      • Avatar of jcohl jcohl says:

@jazz – I wouldn’t necessarily say that Prangley’s winning the fight was “without question”.
Of the 4 other guys I watched the fight with last night, 3 of them thought that Jardine had won the fight, and me and the other friend thought Prangley would get the decision.
And all of us are pretty familiar with MMA, so it wasn’t like they were casuals getting swerved by a guy with a UFC rep.
I do agree that for whatever reason/s, Jardine now simply lacks that fifth gear a fighter needs to kick it into when his opponent won’t back down or back off after a series if exchanges.
Maybe its the years, maybe its the miles, maybe its a combo of both, or maybe the sport has simply passed the guy by.
No disrespect intended, but Trevor Prangley isn’t exactly a top 10 205er, and at some points in the fight Jardine seemed to struggle.
The fact is Prangley is a 185er who couldn’t last 4 minutes with Tim Kennedy, and IMO THAT fact is more damming to Jardine than any underperformance issues, either real or imagined.
Possibly a change of camp might help, but after all of these years I think Jardine is just content to reacting, instead of acting if you follow.
I definitely see a rematch down the road, assuming Jardine doesn’t throw his gloves in a spare room cabinet somewhere and call it a career.
I do think the guy has more to give on the small show circuit, and possibly even overseas, and more power to him if he can be satisfied with going from the mountaintop where he scored wins over former UFC 205 champs like Forrest Griffin and Chuck Liddell to getting roughed up and dropping a decision to a small show MW.
I also agree that Jardine with his experience and disposition would probably make a fine MMA trainer, as his gaidojutsu students can back up.
I’m not a supporter or detractor of either fighter, and I think Prangley deserves credit for hanging with a natural 205er with a LOT more “big fight” experience than he has.

As far as Sokoudjou and Alexander, I dig both of these guys as much as the next fan of Predator masks and old skool hip-hop, but last night in all honestly the Sokoudjou got straight thugged by DJ Scrib or whatever the He11 Alexander calls himself when he’s working the Omaha club scene and the terrestrial airwaves.
The guy needed a win, and he went out a got it, and didn’t sweat the short cuts and the guys like me shaking their heads at the dismal display of in-cage poor sportsmanship.
The only thing worse was the ref’s epic failure to notice anything was wrong.
IMO Sokoudjou also needed the win, and I would have liked to have seen how that fight worked out under PRIDE rules, as I’m pretty sure those headbutts would have been answered with a soccer kick to the face and a VERY different outcome…
        ;)

  • DrDoom says:

I am not surprised that Prangley beat Jardine . But a split decision calls for a rematch .

  • jpmm says:

I remember when sokoudjou came to the ufc from pride and was billed as this unstoppable monster, I for one was chomping at the bit. After that ineffective display against Lyoto (which is mo disgrace by any means) he’s done absolutely zero. Really disappointing

  • Lex415 says:

I can’t believe how late that stoppage was, it was down right terrible. Soko looked great in that first round, he was throwing great “Hollond-Style” combos but over exerted himself trying to finish it in the first. It’s unfortunate really, Soko puts everything into trying to finish a fight that he if he doesn’t, he’s extremely gassed after. Props to Alexander though, he looked good on his feet coming into the second, I thought he’d be more wobbly.

  • DrDoom says:

I , for one , could see the soccer kicks/stomps allowed to the body of a grounded opponent . Its like the “No Hitting Behind The Head” rule just have to watch what you are doing . Make the line from the top of the shoulders and up the no kick/stomp zone .

  • Lex415 says:

Just saw the Jardine fight and Jardine look excellent in the third but just like Thiago/Rampage vs Evans, didn’t have enough gas to finish it.

  • Jyri says:

Trevor Prangley vs. Houston Alexander and Keith Jardine vs. Sokoudjou for Shark Fights 14…?

  • russiandoeboi says:

exciting turn of events thanks to houton. wow.
soukoudjou though should have taken it . he had houston wobbly and waited for ever before doing sweet nothing. maybe he’s weary of being that hulky guy who can gas out.
the ref stoppage was really really really really disturbing – really. disturbing .

  • russiandoeboi says:

    did i mention the s l o w ref stoppage ?

  • bigmike12 says:

Ya that was eidiculous… congrats to houston on the comeback but the headbutts and sh1t is uncalled for and unacceptable

  • Mike says:

Jardine being a trainer my goodness do u guys watch MMA? This is the same guy who once said that he doesn’t believe in game plans and thinks they are overatted. The guy is a dope and has the worst technique of any fighter i ever saw. I wouldn’t want him anywhere near my kid.

    • Avatar of jcohl jcohl says:

Yeah, because its SO much better to have a total stranger with unverified credentials training your kid as opposed to a publicly-known pro fighter that has wins over 2 former UFC 205 titleholders, not to mention is already reckoned in the martial arts world as a talented gaidojutsu instructor.
And as far as I know not too many “masters” of your local strip mall dojo or “head trainers” of those fly-by-night MMA warehouse gyms [that seem to be popping up everywhere] have fought in the sport’s top org 13 times.
Not too many 205ers out there have consistently faced the high level of competition that Jardine has. Factoring that in, his 6 UFC wins sort of make the arguments against Jardine pretty much invalid.

Think it thru Mike, and maybe take a pass on the fighter-bashing [the guy is a dope] next time, ok?
      Thanks…

      • Mike says:

oh please okay. Michael Jordan was the best player in the world and is the best player in the history of the NBA and he is a terrible evalutator of talent. Just because Jardine is a fighter he all of the sudden is a great trainer? The guy has openly said that gameplans are overrated and Greg Jackson is big with game plans. What does that tell ya? Jcohl im sorry that i hurt ur feelings saying he is a dope but the bottom line is that he has the worst technique in MMA and thinks gameplans are silly. This to me makes u ignorant of the sport. Sorry bud but u don’t know everything about MMA and aren’t the most knowledgable guy here. My friends son is one of the top amatuers in the world and camps all over are asking for him. I told him if he picks Jacksons camp try to keep him away from Jardine. I said this to him two months ago. I guess i should have said “if the guy is a fighter just go to that camp” Silly I tell ya. Just silly.

      • Jardine could teach your buddy’s lil MMA genius a thing or two – notably how to knock out former UFC title holders. He’s done it more than once. He doesn’t think game plans are right for him. So what? Don’t send him to Jardine to learn game planning.

Send him to Jardine to learn to fight because I guarantee you that Jardine can teach him more than you think.

Telling him to avoid Jardine just shows that you don’t want him to gain knowledge from a UFC vet – one of the few to be able to say “I beat Chuck Liddell.” One might wonder why you’re holding the kid back. Jealousy?

      • Avatar of jcohl jcohl says:

@mike – not sure why you think my “feelings would be hurt”, because I’m not a Jardine supporter.
If that was supposed to be some sort of “shot”, I have to admit it was pretty weak, as was your “you aren’t the most knowledgable guys here”, and that I’m somehow “ignorant of the sport”.
That last one actually made me legitimately laugh out loud, so thanks for the chuckles.
I’ve exchanged posts with the finest this site has to offer, and have given as good as I’ve got, so don’t get too far ahead of yourself, ok pal?
You’re swimming in pretty deep water when you mix it up with me ;)

Also, I don’t need to know more than everyone else here at the frenZy.
On this particular issue, I know considerably more than you, as does everyone else who has posted underneath you on this, which is pretty obvious by now.
If you don’t think Jardine would make a good trainer, thats your opinion, and you’re entitled to it.
However even opinions have to be based on something other than the fact that you think Jardine is a “dope”

So please, don’t try to convince the rest of us of something that you can’t even remotely back up.
And try to avoid calling people “ignorant” or stuff like that.
The mods are only going to protect you for so long, and then you’ll be labeled a troll and it won’t matter what you post, no one will take it seriously.
Again, I respectfully ask you to think it thru…

    • Avatar of JiutjitsuMAN JiutjitsuMAN says:

mike do you even know anything about MMA?

his style and technique is not the worst… lol, they are very hard to deal with and very unorthodox…

also just because he is a trainer doesnt mean that the people he trains are going to fight like him… duh…

as for fight plans… i myself wouldnt want to have a set fight plan for any fight for the simple reason that ” fights dont always go as planned ”

if you keep things open you have a greater chance for victory… jardines plan has always been to adapt to the current fight as its happening…

sometimes its worked sometimes it hasnt, but guess what, the same can be said for fighters who plan out there attack… sometimes it works other times it doesnt…

i personally would love to have the chance to be trained by any and ALL MMA fighters, wouldnt matter to me if they won or lost the experience they gained from it is invaluble… especially from a guy like jardine who can share is good and bad experiences…

  • Avatar of bigmike12 bigmike12 says:

he still has knowledge of the sport and can give helpful pointers… id rather have jardine, than the jow shmo teaching your kid

    • Mike says:

Well sure but who goes to a Joe smo? There are other options out there . Could u imagine ur fighter going to Jardine and asking him where the game films of his opponent are and Jardine says ” ah don’t worry about that kind of stuff it is overrated.” sure Jardine is gonna be better then the local shoe salesman but what nitwit is gonna go to the local shoe salesman for MMA training?

      • Avatar of JiutjitsuMAN JiutjitsuMAN says:

so now your “assuming” that because he doesnt have fight plans he wont have films? and hes a shoe slaesmen…

anyone can go online and look up fighter videos…

i think you really need to check yourself at the door dude and give jardine the respect he has earned and deserves…

        No personal attacks -BSBiz

  • Avatar of timcat timcat says:

Jardine = DONE!!!! If I recall I told everyone he wasn’t that good!!!!

    • Avatar of jcohl jcohl says:

See my above post on Jardine’s MMA cred in response to the nonsensical “he wasn’t that good”.

I’ve seen you around this site a long time Timcat, and you should know better than to post like a troll. I’ve read a LOT better from you, as has everyone else here.
VERY few 205ers have done what Jardine has done, so lets give the guy his respect that he’s earned in the cage, even if he’s past his prime, ok?

  • Avatar of bigmike12 bigmike12 says:

^^ agreed. jardine can show him the little things about the fight game… if u want ur kid to watch film, if u think watching film with him is better than watching it with jardine then thats ur choice…

  • Mike says:

some comical guys on this site. I see Jcohl is one of those posters that runs to moderators if his feelings get hurt. These type of guys are littered all over the net. To much brains in here and i feel so over matched lofl

    • Avatar of jcohl jcohl says:

@mike – We keep things civil here.
Maybe thats unfamiliar to you at other MMA sites, where nonsensical posted exchanges seem to be their stock in trade, but the frenZy is a cut above the rest.
I’m also not sure why you seem so fixated on “hurt feelings”. Did someone hurt yours or something and you’re projecting?
I made it pretty clear that I’m not a Jardine supporter, and therefore had no emotional investment, so what are you going on about with the hurt feelings bit?

And as far as I know no one has “run to the moderators” about your posts. They unfortunately just sort of speak for themselves on this thread, and the frenZied response was fairly clear.
Accept that and please move on.
No personal attacks, no pointless posting drama, and nothing overly harsh. The posting guidelines are fairly clear, as you type under them everytime you post.
      BE NICE.
      Its right there.
If you’re unable and/or unwilling to follow the site’s guidelines, or you’re looking for somewhere to keyboard scrap, then I’d suggest you find another site to do it at.
      Peace…

  • JAWBREAKER says:

Five straight loses. How do you come back from that? I don’t see it happening.
