Middleweight contenders Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami will meet in the Spike-televised main event of UFC 122 on November 13 in Oberhausen, Germany, with the winner likely earning the next shot at the 185-pound title currently held by Anderson Silva, according to the Wrestling Observer.
Belfort (19-8) returned to the UFC in September with a first-round knockout of former champ Rich Franlin at 195-pounds and was expected to challenge for the belt before being sidelined by a shoulder injury.
Okami (25-5) dropped a decision to Chael Sonnen in September for just his second UFC loss in 11 fights, but has bounced back with wins over Lucio Linhares and Mark Munoz.
After retaining the title with a fifth-round submission of Sonnen at UFC 117, Silva will face Sonnen again as early as January and the Belfort-Okami winner will then challenge for the belt later in the year.
The rumored UFC 122 fight card includes:
- Vitor Belfort vs. Yushin Okami
- Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz
- Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara
- Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Goran Reljic
- Amir Sadollah vs. Peter Sobotta

I predict Vitor vs Chael late summer 2010
i meant 2011
Great main event. The winner will definitely earn a title shot
Vitor by KO mid to late first round. I see Anderson being much better in the rematch with Chael. He also has felt Chaels strengths and knows what to expect this time. I think Anderson will either finish the fight much sooner this time or Chael will win by UD.
I think a fight with Vitor and either one of them(Chael or Anderson) will be a sick fight to watch. Cant wait to see how it all plays out.
Good luck to all fighters though!
And this is why the brits are angry. Germany gets a no 1 contender fight which neither are native and we get bisbing. that’s some bullshit.
I think there is no German fighter on that level who can make a main event.
And bisbing can make a main event?
@ crispyears – yes, in Britain Bisping can carry a main event.
In North America, not so much, not unless he’s in with a top draw, which is probably why a couple of weeks ago he was trying his damnedest to start some Twitter sh!t with Chael Sonnen, who is Dana White’s new golden boy in terms of promotion…
he is the best british fighter u guys have so thats why he is on the main event
I like that fight
Vitor win by KO. Enough said.
could be a great fight its a better main event than 120
I still think Vitor vs Martquart is the more reasonable match to make, but I can’t complain about getting to watch Vitor KO somebody for free.
I think a lot of us, myself included, would prefer to see Belfort-Marqaurdt, but the timing is a bit shady because Marqaurdt is fighting Palhares in a couple of weeks, and that might not allow sufficient recovery time for him to be ready for Belfort at 122…
Everyone is sleeping on Okami in this fight. I think his style of wresting and striking defence is Vitor’s weakness. I see this being similar to how he lost to Henderson at Pride 32.
i agree with u on Okami lot of people are on down on him.. after he lost to C Sonnen lot of be gave up on him.. Silva\Sonnen vs Okami 2
vitor sucks against good wrestlers. i think this will be a big win for okami!!! the difference between okami and rich, okami wont try to stand at all!!!
I think it’s about time for an asian fighter to get a title shot.. I’m bored with brazilians and americans
