Here are my predictions (for the main card):

BJ Penn def. Frankie Edgar – when PJ is motivated he’s the best 155 in the world… ever! And in his last fight he wasn’t motivated. Or he wasn’t motivated to train or whatever… But I think that he’s seariously out for vengeance this time around and I think he will defeat Edgar.

James Toney def. Randy Couture – yes, I said it, Toney will beat Randy. Randy can try to push Toney against the cage all night, but in the end I think that Toney’s going knock him out. KO of the night, I predict.

Kenny Florian def. Gray Maynard – I don’t see Maynard beating Florian by a desicion. And I don’t see him finishing matches any other way, so I say Florian. Setting things up for Penn vs. Florian II…

Demian Maia def. Mario Miranda – yup. And it better be an amazing submission, ‘cos I’m still kinda :( about Nate not being on the card anymore.

Nate Diaz def. Marcus Davis – nothing “scientific” here, just a gut feeling. Might be a fun little back-and-forth this one.

      • Jyri says:

Looks like we were both way wrong here, exept for Nata defeating Marcus Davis. :)

But I gotta admit, I loved being wrong tonight. I mean I’ve been giving Randy Couture a lot of crap for not having like “highlight reel finishes” to his matches, but he was very good tonight against Toney. He won me over.

Also the Edgar vs. Penn fight – I’ve always been rooting for Edgar, but I didn’t always 100% believe in him. But tonight he was just frickin’ awesome. This is high praise, but to me he was the St. Pierre of the 155 division.

As for Maia, only surprise there was that he couldn’t finish this guy. And I know, I was an idiot for writing Mario Miranda off, ‘cos he wasn’t a “name fighter” (and with a name like that…), but he really put on a fight. I still don’t know if Damien wasn’t as good as expected or if Miranda was BETTER than expected. I’d like to see a rematch between these two… yeah, don’t rush Maia back to the title scene, let him work and earn it. Make him better himself.

And then there was the Kenny Florian vs. Gray Maynard Fight… again, I’ll be the first one to admit that I was wrong and again I completely wrote Gray Maynard off. To quote myself “I don’t see Maynard beating Florian by a desicion”… and I was 100% wrong. I don’t know what the hell was up with Kenny tonight. Maybe he gave Gray too much respect? Maybe Gray was just better…? Anyway, it’s a whole next generation of contenders at the belt and I for one love it!

Then Marcus Davis… I’ve never seen a head swell that bad. I hate it how much I enjoyed the epic gore and yuck. But at least I’m honest about it.

Props for Joe Lauzon – nice submission.

        That all? About…

      • Jyri says:

And when I say we were both wrong, that also means that we were wrong ‘cos Maia didn’t finish “Super” Mario, even if he defeated him.

  • abhijeet gulia says:

cpt america wins if he doesnt catch that bigeeee in the 1st n 2nd round .Also if randy is successful taking the brawl down n keep it down or stick toney to the cage n suck his energy …otherwise the fight could get over with one punch …remem toney has knocked out 5o guys in pro fights …………………….
pen wins period ..coz revenge is a bad motivation………..
and if nate didn’t smoke enough pot then he is gonna lose …lol

great to see dan miller get a w… long over due

  • TC says:

Hey Kris I see the below match in spike TV but your story says:

    PRELIMINARY CARD

    John Salter vs. Dan Miller

Did UFC change their plan or it’s just typo?

  • rusty.rob says:

ive heard somewhere, apparently james toney has been training mma for a while now and his grapping is better than what people think its

  • TC says:

Man Yve Lavine or whatever his name is should be sued his a$$ off…….he was about to kill Marcus Davis. So late stoppage ….a 3 year old can tell he is in sleep alrdy.

  • ct says:

guess randy shut up big mouth… and frankie dominating bj again

  • TC says:

Edgar 50-45 LMFAO!!!! I hope this will shut all the controversey from Edgar vs Penn I.

  • Avatar of corey corey says:

Wow, way to go Edgar. No doubt your champ now.

  • KEVSMITT says:

    3 Observations:

    1. Why didn’t Kenny go for more takedowns?

    2. What is wrong with BJ’s corner? Were those guys contest winners from the audience or just afraid to give BJ’s ego any advice?

    3. What the heck did Ricardo Almeida have on his feet? If you didn’t see it the first time, look for it again when Frankie’s corner is in the ring after the fight. It looked like he stepped on two Smurfs.

  • Sammy Adams says:

BJ is going to retire, unless he tries to cut weight for WEC’s 145 (which is highly doubtful)… BJ will have to win at least 3 fights at lightweight to get another title shot; same deal if he moves to welterweight. Since making his comeback to the UFC in 2005, he’s only fought in two non-title fights. He sounded pretty defeated in his post-fight interview, like he knew he wouldn’t be getting another title bout anytime soon. He’s the type of guy who either gets to fight for the top prize, or just gives up. Sad to say, because he’s one hell of a fighter. Sorry to see you go BJ, but, if you want back into title contention, you’ll have to put in the work to string together 2 or 3 wins. He’s definitely got the skill to do it, but I don’t think he can stay focused enough for the next 1.5-2 years to do that.

  • fr702 says:

Props to Edgar for fighting his fight, distance in the standup circling and well hip control in the clinch, does he have Penn’s # seems so. I’m a huge fan of Penn’s and he didn’t have it tonight and paid for it by clearly losing 50~45 that’s the way it goes from time to time I guess, once again Edgar great job you are now the #1 LW in the world!

Couture v Toney went down the way it was suppose too, props for Toney stepping in the octagon but he was easily out classed!

Maia with a good UD went for the Arm too much when the Triangle was there imo but hey he knows more about BJJ than I do so there that is

Gray Maynard with a wrestling exhibition and earns his shot at the title good stuff and perhaps he played it safe but Kenny did that as well to earn his shot, mind you he took Florian down at will and engaged but he never became reckless which is good.. Kenny man what was that? Maynard was the better man tonight! Props to him Edgar v Maynard will be interesting

209 WAT? Anyways I think Davis was out for a bit longer than Yves thought but Davis is a tough SOB and fought through the cuts and the eye buldging, what a finish by Diaz he is pretty damn good at WW

Joe Lauzon = domination wow good stuff hell impressive stuff man

UFC 118 a wonderful card, o and Miller is a NINJA who knew?

  • bigmike12 says:

great card… bj has issues and his corner sucked… toney sucks which is what we expected and some nice submissions tonight… no KO’s tho :(

  • frankie says:

WOW,WTF REMMEMBER RANDY IS 47 YEARS OLD,DAMN HE”S GOOD,ALSO I CAN”T BELIEVE BJ LOST THIS FIGHT,SOUNDS LIKE ITS TIME FOR OUT WITH THE OLD IN WITH THE NEW YOUNGER BLOOD,THATS WHAT MAKES MMA GREAT NOT TO MANY FIGHTERS ARE UNBEATABLE,#1 SPORT

  • Avatar of Lex415 Lex415 says:

“o and Miller is a NINJA who knew?”

    HA!

  • Dan82523 says:

When Penn tweeted that he was on his way to the Arena I seriously tweeted him back saying that he needs to take Edgar down..BJ has major ego problems and did not listen to my advice

  • christb says:

time 4 b.j to retire yes it is

  • Avatar of Random Random says:

    I’m pretty disappointed.
I like Marcus Davis for a while now, and really wanted him to win.
Nate did a great job, although pissed me a little being cocky.

Same thing for the Edgar-Penn fight. I wanted Penn to win, he always seemed to me like a champ, but you can see even before the fight started that he already gave up. Congrats Frankie.

And finally James Toney has his mouth shut. Great job by Randy.
