With an immediate rematch against Fabricio Werdum delayed until next year, former top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko hopes to fight Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem in November or December.
“Absolutely, I would like a rematch with Werdum. But as he recently had surgery this fight is unlikely to happen soon,” Emelianenko announced on M-1 Global’s official website. “This year, in November-December, I would like to meet in a cage with Alistair Overeem.”
Emelianenko (32-2) suffered a shocking 69-second submission to Werdum in June to snap a nearly 10 year, 28 fight win streak. Overeem (33-11) is unbeaten in nine-straight, most-recently returning to Strikeforce with a successful title defense over Brett Rogers in May.
