Efrain Escudero will replace an injured Mac Danzig and meet fellow lightweight Matt Wiman in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 22 on September 15 in Austin, Texas, according to MMAWeekly.
John Gunderson, who had been scheduled to fight Escudero, will now face returning veteran Yves Edwards on the Spike-televised event’s unaired preliminary card.
The Ultimate Fighter 8 winner Escudero (13-1) rebounded from a January loss to Evan Dunham with a unanimous decision over Dan Lauzon in May, while Wiman (12-5) scored a controversial submission of Danzig in June for his second-straight win.
Edwards (38-16-1) left the UFC in 2006, but returns after winning four of his last five, including a decision over Luis Palomino at last Thursday’s Bellator 24, while Gunderson (23-7) dropped his UFC debut to Rafaello Oliveira in January before earning a unanimous decision over Mark Holst in June.
The UFC Fight Night 22 fight card is headlined by Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares and also includes Gleison Tibau vs. Jim Miller and Ross Pearson vs. Cole Miller.
