Swick To Fight in January on Spike TV
Mike Swick will return to the octagon in January on Spike TV. Swick issued a MySpace bulletin yesterday announcing the bout. The UFC has two scheduled events for January (UFC 80 and UFC Fight Night 12), both of which could air on Spike. Given his popularity and his booking in the headline bout at UFC Fight Night 11 (before withdrawing due to an injury) Swick could very well headline UFC Fight Night 12 on January 23rd.
No opponent for the bout has been announced though Swick promises to pass along the information as soon as everything is finalized.
Swick owns a 10-2 record but has not fought since losing to Yushin Okami at UFC 69 in April. The loss prompted Swick to drop down to the UFC’s welterweight division and his January bout will be his first fight contested at the new weight.

Go back to Middlewieght, you are needed now in that dead wieght class.
swick is not a force at mw
Swick wouldn’t stand a chance against Anderson Silva, but that fight would make sense and it could be a fight that could be a Co-Main Event for a PPV. I don’t think it would happen, but I would be cheering for Mike Swick against Silva; the only thing I would look forward to in that fight is how many minutes Swick would last.
Swick’s only choice was to drop. Silva > Franklin (x2) > Okami > Swick.
I don’t think he’ll fair much better at 170 though. I had him at #5 as a Middleweight and think it’ll be really tough (not impossible) to get top three or four at Welterweight.
Why is it when everyone loses the first thing they try to do is drop down to the next weightclass. How bout these fighters start doing whats right. You get beat you train harder. Not try to take what you think is the easy way out by dropping to the next weight class
Swick has talked about dropping for a year or two before the Okami fight. I don’t think he dropped because he was scared as you’re saying.
That I do know.. I was not refering to Swick personally I’m talking fighters overall in general.
It works out occasionally but not always. Couture to 205 worked out, Evans to 205 seems like a good idea, Franklin fought Shamrock at 205 I believe (but I think that was for 1 fight only) and then back to 185 & BJ dropping to 155 all worked out.
As usual good point Vamp..
I think swick could do some damage at 170lbs is not in the same league as silva at 185 but then who is, still think swick would get mauled by someone like gsp
I agree with you on that hoppy. Gsp would be tough for Swick. He has reach by a little, but Gsp is so well rounded. Can’t wait for his championship bout. Is the date tenatively set or does that all depend on Serra-Hughes?
I’m not sure holy dave, but i think gsp will get his belt back by beating matt hughes’ ass again after the serra hughes fight , i’m lovin the 170lbs division at the mo really good strong competitio, maybe swick v sanchez at 170lbs would tell us exactly where swick is at at tis weight class
holy_dave – a date for GSP vs Hughes/Serra hasn’t been set, but Dana has said that St Pierre’s next fight will be against the winner of the December Title fight – my guess would March or April
hoppy – Don’t rule out Serra, I think he stands a really good chance against Hughes.
