Rumor Update: Sokoudjou vs. Machida at UFC 79
Posted by contributors on Nov 13, 2007 at 4:33 pm ET18 Comments
Just earlier we posted that in a new interview, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou stated that he will be competing in a “cage” on “Dec. 29th in Vegas.” By the process of simple deduction, the only mixed martial arts event scheduled for December 29th in Las Vegas happens to be UFC 79: Nemesis. Ryoto “Lyoto” Machida was one of the names I suggested as a possible opponent for Sokoudjou. Brazilian website, World Fight is now reporting that several sources are confirming that Machida’s next opponent will indeed be Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.
Please check back with UFCDaily for updates.

THis is gonna be the best UFC ever. I am pumped….any word on if Henderson is gonna fight too?
Aw its gonna be good. Sokoudjou > Machida. If Henderson is fighting at 185 I’d have to imagine he’d be fighting anderson Silva because he is still the pride middleweight champ and they’ll probably want to do the unification thing. That fight would make it the most ridiculous UFC event ever.
Gsquat- i agree this even is gonna be sick but i cant remember who told me but dana wont do that unification bout wit henderson the unified champion when hes only got one fight left on his contract…this fight is gonna be a tough test for machida…but if anyone can do…its machida…but the highlight of dec 29th for me is gonna be the beer and watching wanderlei beat up chuck and then watch matt serra beat up hughes…but i cant see hughes not winning that match…he is gonna take a beating though
I dont think Hughes is gonna take a beating at all. I really dont see it being that good of a fight. Serra cant match Hughes strength. Only way Serra wins is by a strike that rocks Hughes (like he did vs GSP) and I think Hughes is gonna take it to the ground before that happens. Ground n Pound ref stoppage in the first round. Maybe even within the first or second minute.
I am also gonna take Chuck in this one. Call me crazy, but he is not gonna lose three in a row. I see Silva losing three in a row before Chuck. Chuck is gonna come much more prepared and he has nothing to lose, Silva has his UFC (re)debut. Silva goes down in the second round referee stoppage.
But who knows Ravine, ur prolly right cause whoever I pick loses. I just have to much faith in Hughes hurting Serra and shuttin his mouth.
this would be a good fight machida will lose this fight if rumor is true
jus thinking out loud here but i think this site should have some fantasy wager type thing so we can all play against eachother…something like mmaplayground…jus a thought
yeah, that is a great idea….Kris?? haha
Did you nick this article from fightlinker.com cos im sure i just read it before you posted this one?!?
Wow! I’m so happy about this fight. I am happy to be wrong because I thought that the UFC wasn’t going to strengthen the Main Card for UFC 79, but they did and I was happy to be wrong. I will go with Machida on this one, but Sokoudjou is no joke and Machida will definately bring his A Game. Hopefully Sokodjou prepares himself for the cage; should be a fun fight.
I am not sure where Derek first read about this but it is being widely reported on blogs and forums.
Ravine and FixXer – I can set up a camp on MMAPlayground so we can go head to head on our picks. I’ll get it set up tomorrow and we can have a picks contest for UFC 78. Nothing too spectacular but maybe a $10 giftcard or something.
IF Hendo fights on this card it’s at 205, not middleweight.
That would be awsome Kris….make things a lil more interesting!
anonymous: Nope, not at all. If you check the post time of the original post on Sokoudjou, it was posted several hours (about 2 hrs) before fightlinker.com posted their story. This follow-up post (mentioning Machida) was done 2 hrs later on my own site (MMA Movement) and due to time constraints, posted on UFC Daily about an hour later. Trust me, fightlinker.com is definitely a SUPER COOL site in my books and I have no issues with sourcing them. Feel free to check out their site and see for yourself. The two posts are definitely different.
ravine…it’s nice to see you’ve finally admitted that hughes will beat your buddy serra. hendo knocked out wandy, why can’t chuck? if hendo fights before the mw title against silva it should be at lhw. there are a number of good fights at 205 for him. not so many at 185. hendo can beat anyone at 185 including anderson silva!
what can i say man i really do respect serra as a fighter…and he won me over by dominating one of ma fav fighters in GSP…Kris…let me know what the fight camp name is…im down for going up head to head in picks wit u guys
kris im in as well let me know i got some good picks
i also cant wait 2 see kongo fight again any one got any news on when he is fighting??
Okay, the camp is set up. All the information is in the right sidebar. Best of luck to everybody that enters.
