Middleweight contender Demaian Maia has been moved up from September’s UFC Fight Night 22 and will meet 185-pound prospect Mario Miranda on the main card of UFC 118 on August 28 in Boston, MMAjunkie reports.
Maia was scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 22 until a detached retina forced rising middleweight Alan Belcher out of the main event over the weekend. A UFC 118 bout between middleweights Nate Marquardt and Rousimar Palhares was then shifted to the headlining slot.
Maia (12-2) replaced an injured Vitor Belfort and dropped a unanimous decision to middleweight champ Anderson Silva in his most-recent fight in April, a bout most-remembered for Silva’s antics than Maia’s inability to engage the champ. The jiu jistu ace previously won 12 of 13, including 6 of 7 in the UFC over the likes of Chael Sonnen and Dan Miller.
Miranda (12-1) suffered a first-round TKO to Gerald Harris in his UFC debut in March for his first career loss, but rebounded in June with a second-round TKO of veteran David Loiseau at UFC 115.
