Phil Baroni Out of UFC 118 Preliminary Fight with John Salter

Phil BaroniVeteran Phil Baroni has pulled out of his return to middleweight against John Salter on the UFC 118 preliminary card after suffering an injury to his collar bone ahead of the August 28 event in Boston.

Baroni hinted at the injury earlier today, writing “I cant take it anymore. Im freaking out. anxiety im shot. beaten” on Twitter.

Baroni (13-12) dropped to welterweight in July 2008 and scored a career high-tying three-straight wins, but has since suffered back-to-back losses to Joe Riggs in Strikeforce last June and Amir Sadollah in November in his UFC return.

Salter (5-1)  dropped his UFC debut to Gerald Harris in January, but scored a first-round TKO at May’s UFC 113 after veteran Jason MacDonald suffered a broken leg.

A search is now underway to find a replacement to meet Salter on the UFC 118 prelims, while Baroni’s future is uncertain.

The UFC 118 fight card is headlined by a rematch between lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn and also features Randy Couture vs. James Toney and Kenny Florian vs. Gray Maynard.
