Hey Kris….I heard a rumor about a possible Rich Franklin vs Royce Gracie matchup in either UFC 80 or UFC 81….have you heard that yet? It may just be sum Quad City gossip but I would definently like to see that one.

  • No I hadn’t heard that. There’s rumors swirling though that Tim Sylvia is going to face Nogueira at UFC 81 for the heavyweight title. It’s just rumor at this point but definitely a possibility.

  • John Balfe says:

Is Royce still not serving a ban, or will that have cleared by January? Either way, I don’t see a Franklin v Gracie fight on the horizon – it would just be a waste of time for Franklin.

I’m buying my ticket for this on Friday! Can’t wait to see BJ.

  • Red says:

Thanks for the heads up on Syliva/Minotauro Kris. I don’t think we’ll ever see Royce fight in the UFC, especially against a huge Middleweight like Rich Franklin.

I wonder who Rich Franklin might fight next? The only fighter I see right now that makes sense for Franklin is Marquardt.

  • Gracie’s suspended until June. He could hypothetically fight in England since there’s no commission for MMA yet. It’s not going to happen but hypothetically it could.

Marquardt would definitely be the most likely I think but a recent report says he has just one fight left and hasn’t received an offer yet. It’s only a matter of time before the UFC has to bring Filho in I think.

  • holy_dave says:

They might as well bring in Filho now. If the next season of TUF is MWs, then that opens up the possibility of a bunch of new fights. But until then you have Okami/Cote/Marquardt/Franklin/Macdonald all dancing for second best. They could base a season of TUF on Franklin/Marquardt nd then let them fight at the final. That way the entire division sits stagnant for a year like the WWs. Also, that would increase Ace’s fanbase to the point they might could market a third loss (I mean fight) to Silva.

  • holy_dave says:

Well, apparently Okami signed with K-1 so he’s not in the UFC anymore.

  • eltz says:

what ??? okami isnt in the ufc anymore is that true rich should fight kampmann that would be a awsome fight and i am intrested 2 see that antoni hardonk fight with colin robison that should be a good one

  • scotchydow says:

Why did Okami leave? Just a shot at the title and gone huh? Gracie (I am sure) learned a lot when Hughes destroyed him. Learned things like don’t try and fight in the UFC even though his familly birthed it.

  • eltz says:

wow its okami and nate who might leave the ufc that would make the middle weight division more weak it would be lower then weak

  • holy_dave says:

I always forget about Kampmann. He was on a tear when he got injured.

  • holy_dave says:

mmajunkie.com is reporting that Marquardt is fighting at UFC 81 possibly. He needs a strong showing. Good luck to Nate.
