UFC 79: Manny Gamburyan vs. Nate Mohr

Update: MMAFrenzy.com has confirmed with a source close to Gamburyan that he will be fighting Nate Mohr at UFC 79 in December.
Rumors are swirling that Manny Gamburyan, the runner-up on The Ultimate Fighter 5, will return to the UFC in December at UFC 79 to take on Nate Mohr in a lightweight bout. It is unknown if agreements for the fight have been signed.
Gamburyan (5-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) entered The Ultimate Fighter 5 with a 5-1 record with his only defeat being a decision loss to future UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk. On the show he defeated Noah Thomas, Matt Wiman, and Joe Lauzon to advance to the finals of the 16-man lightweight tournament. On the finale of the show Gamburyan won the first round of the fight but lost to Nate Diaz after dislocating his shoulder on an attempted takedown. The injury resulted in lengthy medical suspension though he will be cleared in time for the December fight.
Mohr (8-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) started his career with a 3-3 mark but won 4 consecutive fights to earn a UFC contract. In his debut he was topped by Kurt Pellegrino but rebounded at UFC Fight Night 10 in June with a unanimous decision win over Luke Caudillo.
UFC 79 is headlined by a Welterweight Championship showdown between current champion Matt Serra and former champion and challenger Matt Hughes. The long-anticipated showdown between Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva is the co-main event.

it will be good to see how manny goes.he looked a good fighter and a tough guy.i thought he wouldve won the show if his shoulder hadnt popped.
Manny fights like a tough little MF-er, with some bad short-man syndrome. It’s works for him though. He would have beat Diaz for the TUF title, but oh well.
Manny is a tough dude. I think we will see him fight Nate Diaz again one day.
manny would of won the TUF finale, that is not to say diaz does not deserve props, i think if this fight goes down manny will probably win and will have a very successful career in the lightweight divison and yes he will face diaz down the road
I think Manny has a very large skill set. He seems to be good on his feet, and is GREAT on the ground. It’s to bad his cousin is such a dick. I think Karo is very talented, but that stunt he pulled on Nate Diaz was BS. I think it’s just cause he holds a grudge against Nick. It was cool to see Manny keep his cool and stay out of it since he and Nate were friends.
good coment scotchydow and i agree that was cool of him to stay out of it
Manny is a monster. I was as pissed as Jens during TUF 5 when BJ and Dana were naming their top “picks” and never included the Anvil. He was actually the #1 reason why I started watching The Ultimate Fighter again. Having seen him in Karo’s corner in almost every one of his fights in the Octagon since his debut against Strasser, I always wondered what he was capable of. For a guy that is only 5′5″, he has to be one of the most ferocious guys in the 155lb division.
Just ask Sean Sherk. Manvel took him to a decision. That is something that his larger cousin never did in their two fights. Regardless, Karo and Manny are my favorite fighters in MMA regardless of their colourful attitudes. Win or lose, they put on exciting fights. I’ve been waiting for almost six months to see Manny back in action. I hope Nate Diaz takes notice!
Can’t wait for this one. Nate will have to keep it standing if he is going to win.
Manny is tough, and fights like a bulldog. If it hits the mat, Manny will be in control.
Yep, it’ll be good to see Manny back. Just got word this fight is a go.
Great work Kris on breaking the story.
The Hughes/Serra card may be the best card of the year and I heard when I was out in Vegas, that Dan Henderson might fight Anderson Silva for the title, but that was from some meathead wearing a Sean Sherk Affliction shirt at the Voodoo lounge at the Rio t.
Not a reliable source.
Thanks for the heads up since you gave me the tip to pursue it. I think a Henderson-Silva title fight is likely what we will see next as it’s the only fight that makes much sense without them bringing in outside talent or moving Filho from the WEC. He has to sign a new contract first which could drag it out.
Right now Lightweight, Middleweight, Light Heavyweight, and Heavyweight are all available for early 2008. I think we’ll probably only see one title on the line at each PPV event for a while after they got burnt on UFC 72 and UFC 78. Welterweight probably won’t happen until after hockey season so they can have GSP’s title fight in Montreal.
nate diaz would have finished off manny, he got lucky when his shoulder popped out it was a legitimate way for him to lose the fight he would have loss anyways
For fans of the TUF alumni- Sammy Morgan (competitor from season 2 on Matt Hughes’ team) will be fighting Ti legend Chung Le in the Strikeforce event on November 16th. Bobby Southworth from Chris Leben’s tireade fame will also appear on the card. Non-TUF but UFC punching bag and fallguy Sean Salmon will face Denis Hallman on that night as well.
I will always remember Salmon different from how everyone else remembers him. Everyone remembers him as the one who got knocked the f*** out by Rashad….I will always remember the the first strike of his during that fight. The goofy kick that he did….and Joe Rogan was making fun of him too. I swear I rewound it a million times laughing my ass off.
#14, the karate kid-kick, was one in a million, and an unforgettable UFC moment.
I’ld never forget Manny’s quote during the TUF series..”I’m hungry”, dude is a monster, never gets fed enough.
Wow I forgot about that TKD kick that Salmon tryed in the first. That was a hilarious attempt that only missed Rashad by 6 feet. Maybe 7.
vhopshem manny will become the lightwieght champ of the wolrd one day mark my words and watch ive met the guy and even we the guys not in the octogon hes the most intimadating guy ive ever met in my life hes 5′5,155 but the way he carrys himself makes him seem so much bigger… at the end of the day win or lose hes armenian and all i gotta say is ARMENIAN PRIDE.
