“Jacare” vs. Kennedy for Vacant Strikeforce Middleweight Title at “Strikeforce: Houston”

A new Strikeforce middleweight champion will be crowned when Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Tim Kennedy square off at “Strikeforce: Houston” on August 21 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, Strikeforce announced on Friday.

The 185-pound title was previously held by Jake Shields, who was released by Strikeforce earlier this month as he neared a deal with the UFC after completing his contract with an April win over Dan Henderson.

A middleweight tournament is also in the works to determine the first challenger for the “Jacare”-Kennedy winner.

Strikeforce also confirmed Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal vs. Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante and lightweights KJ Noons vs Jorge Gurgel for the Showtime-televised event, while undefeated heavyweight Bobby Lashley will also return to action on the “Strikeforce: Houston” fight card.
