Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber has withdrawn from his scheduled bantamweight debut against Takeya Mizugaki at “WEC 50: Cruz vs. Benavidez” on August 18 after suffering an knee injury in training, Faber today announced on Twitter.
After losing a unanimous decision to 145-pound title-holder Jose Aldo at April’s WEC 48 for his third loss in five fights, Faber (23-4) planned to drop to 135-pounds against Mizugaki (13-4-2), who evened his WEC record at 2-2 with an April win over Rani Yahya.
WEC 50 airs live on Versus from The Palms in Las Vegas and is headlined by a rematch between bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz and Joseph Benavidez.
The WEC 50 fight card also includes Shane Roller vs. Anthony Pettis, Chad Mendes vs. Cub Swanson, and Scott Jorgensen vs. Brad Pickett.
