Per Eklund will become the first Swedish fighter to fight in the UFC after signing a four fight, 18-month deal.
He will make his debut at UFC 80 in Newcastle, England in January though no opponent has been named. Eklund was originally rumored to be facing Terry Etim at the event but Etim will reportedly be fighting Sam Stout instead.
He will enter his first career UFC fight with a 12-2-1 career MMA record including wins in his last four fights. A veteran of BodogFight, Eklund’s last bout was an October win over Rafael Dias at BodogFight Vancouver.

This should be good. Sweden produces some of the worlds greatest kickboxers. I have seen this guy before and he is tough.
If you think he’s tough scotchydow, then the guy must be really good. I wonder if the UFC will give Eklund an opponent that is well established that people know or a fighter that is trying to make a name for himself?
I think the fact that they were considering having him fight Etim speaks volume because he’s one of the more well known European fighters outside of Bisping. I expect him to have a decent opponent for his debut, not a top name but solid none-the-less.
Outstanding! Let’s suck up all the Bodog fighters while they’re on their way out! Get Eddie Alvarez in here! Long live UFC!
