UFC 116 Bonuses: Lesnar, Leben Among Six Fighters Earning $75K Awards
Brock Lesnar, Chris Leben, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Stephan Bonnar, Krzysztof Soszynski, and Gerald Harris each earned $75,000 fight night bonuses for their performances at Saturday’s “UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin” in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White announced at the event’s post-fight press conference.
The UFC heavyweight champ Lesnar survived a first-round barrage to claim “Submission of the Night” for his second-round arm triangle of challenger Shane Carwin in the UFC 116 main event.
Leben and Akiyama won “Fight of the Night” honors for their back-and-forth UFC 116 co-headliner, as both fighters put each other in danger before Leben forced Akiyama to tap to a triangle choke with just 20-seconds remaining in the bout.
Bonnar and Soszynski earned a second “Fight of the Night” award for their main card rematch, trading big punches before Bonnar downed Soszynski with a knee and finished him with punches in the second.
Harris scored UFC 116′s “Knockout of the Night” as he knocked newcomer Dave Branch unconscious with a slam midway through the third round of their preliminary matchup.

submission of the night to Lesnar! I am pleased.
Really? If lesnars biceps weren’t so big it wouldn’t have made carwin tap…but then again lebans triangle didn’t look to tight I think sexyama was just gassed enough that it worked but I still think it should have gone to leban but I guess u can’t get fight of the night and sub of the night…can u? Anyone know for sure?
Leben not leban…just woke up and hung over…and what’s the first thing I do? Better believe its post on frenzy :)
Seriously? Have you never heard of google or wikipedia? Is that really too much effort?
Yea You Can Win Two Of The Nights Awards In One Night. Pat Barry Got Knockout And Fight Of The Night In The Same Night.
Yea seriously bsbiz what’s ur prob? Y would I do that when I could just ask the ppl here?
Prosecution rests. Do your own research.
Each bonus was well deserved.
UFC should give out some sort of “momentum shift bonus”.
i still think that the sub of the night should have gone to lytle… brock didnt need any more money
@ chall – I don’t think there are any hard and fast rules set in cement for bonuses.
If two guys drop an amazing performance, and the fight ends in a submission or T/KO, I believe it is possible to score both FoTN and either SoTN or KOoTN.
And for anyone who doesn’t think that Brock Lesnar earned that SoTN bonus, then consider that with barely 2 years of dedicated catch-wrestling training, he subbed a purple belt in BJJ, so, y’know.
Plus that submission was completely unexpected, determined the outcome of the biggest HW title fight in UFC history, and settled the question of who is in fact the sport’s top HW.
If that doesn’t qualify a fighter for SoTN, then I don’t know what does…
Hm, good to know thanks, and I’m not sayin I wasn’t impressed by lesnars sub but leben isn’t known for his subs, or for that matter a ground game add to that he was losing the fight and he hit it with less then 30 seconds left against a guy who’s known for having a good ground game…I mean come on how can u say that’s not sub of the night?
Sorry Jcohl… but Lytle’s double sub was far better then a first year choke… Sorry I think Lytle got robbed.. Happy Brock is getting better at MMA but I believe Lytle’s submission was by bar the best of the night…
I get where you’re coming from, but you need to contextualize the submission.
While Lytle’s was technically superior, it took place in what honestly isn’t even a contenders match.
Lesnar’s sub decided the undisputed UFC HW championship, and ended the debate over who is the planet’s top MMA HW…
Great night of fights!!!
I cant remember vs who but i read a story about Pat Barry winnin FoTN and KOoTN
that was against antoni hardonk. he got 134K!
Lytle’s double sub was pretty sweet. Brock deserved the sotn though. Lytle had another really sweet double sub with a reverse triangle and a kimurua. Awesome ground game.
Brock did deserve sotn. Lytle’s double sub was awesome. He had another double sub that was even cleaner. It was a reverse triangle with kimurua which he did get sotn.
^^ Ya against Jason Gilliam back a few years ago…
Great night of fights from top to bottom. Also great refereeing in the Lesner and Carwin fight.
I think leben deserved sub of the night. He could of been down 2 rounds and needed it for the victory. You know carwin is pissed after only getting 40 grand. After brocks victory fedors loss doesn’t seem so bad.
This was my first live MMA event and it was awesome! Had great seats! The bonuses were justified but I think Lesnar got a huge bonus already from the ref in round 1…
Leben impressed big time, same with Bonnar.
Carwin’s onslaught actually looked worse than it was….very few of those gnp strikes were connecting solid, likely due to Brock’s massive forearms. Brock just didn’t help appearances much by turtling to the ground. Props to the ref though, for being on top of it.
Lesnar shouldnt have gotten sub of the night, but i guess you coulda flip flopped Lesnar-Carwin fight with Akiyama-Leben with either of the 2 bonuses
submission to lesner are you ****tin me.there were so many other crazy technical submissions that were pure skill.lesners was nothing but power and it was kinda expected.the others were pure skill, abd crazy skill at that.petruzelli gettin tapped like that was amazing.
“it was kinda expected.”
Maybe in Bizarro World. Here in Reality, no one saw it coming.
nice
if an arm triangle is so expected and powerful… why is it one of the hardest subs to secure and finish?
