  • Muaythai4life says:

Was that Chris Cope the same as Kit Cope? His real name is Kristopher, maybe we spelled it wrong?

  • supermin says:

so Dana was right about they couldnt sell the tickets. Dana must thought he won a lottery on Sat.

  • DrDoom says:

Well if neither Werdum or Fedor is hurt or suspended why not have them fight on an August 28 CBS card ?

Fedor does not deserve a immediate rematch. He took the risk of fighting werdum and not Alister. Wedum deserves the titleshot after beating “the greatest heavyweight ever”. Not only does an immediate rematch belittle Werdum, but it also belittles Strikeforce’s legitimacy. If anything this gives strikeforce more power to re-negotiate their co-promotion with M-1. Scott Coker should take a page from the Dana White Biography and learn he doesn’t need to bend over backwards for these Russians and when they can’t even deliver on their end.

On a side note, is the frenzy going to write an article about the second man to die in an Pro MMA Event? That’s important news that i would like to see the frenzy discuss.

      • petterson says:

i agree with you on the fedor part and as for michael kirkhan, “the frenzy” is discussing that on the forums section, it is sad news…

  • Coach says:

Didn’t know a fighter died, thanks for that info Corey, I guess I do need to check out more then just the frenzy for mma related news (and this is big). This will not help getting MMA legal in Ontario, Dana your comments please.

PS. So sorry to Michael’s family, friends and fans.

What an absolute tradgedy. It was his MMA debut, and he got pummeled right away by far better competition. There is a HUGE difference between amateur and professional fighting, and the fight showed that, even though he was a giant at 6 foot 9. The ref did stop the fight pretty quickly, the med staff rushed in, but it was announced that he was unconscious and on life support from the end of the fight until he was pronounced dead this morning. Good luck finding the fight video from Saturday night, the sites I visited earlier have pulled it.

I would not be surprised if South Carolina pulled the mma license right away. They just allowed mma this past year. Thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, fans and loved ones. What a brutal way to go. R.I.P.

    • JZ says:

Agreed… A sad day in MMA. Our hearts and prayers go’s out to his family and friends. He must have been pretty skinny, 6’9 and fighting at lightweight.

  • Philly87 says:

Heres a question.. If fight salaries totaled nealry 800 thousand.. and the whole event made less then 2 mill… minus costs for the venue, the people behind the scenes (such as commentators, the men who build and maintain the stage and ring, the vendors, the security, the refs, etc), then the costs for production… HOW THE HELL IS STRIKEFORCE MAKING ANY MONEY??????????????????????????????????

  • 714thai says:

    EXACTLY..WHERE IS THE PROFIT???
DONT THINK SHOWTIME MONEY STRECHES THAT FAR

    • jcohl says:

Both Showtime and CBS have some pretty deep pockets, and by all accounts the deal Strikeforce signed is a good one.
Although when all is said and done, Dana is probably going to be proven right about SF not making any money if they can’t get more than 11,000+ to see Fedor fight in San Jose, which is an MMA hotbed…

  • Jason says:

    @Corey

They gave Rogers a title shot after losing to the “greatest heavyweight.” So with that logic in mind, Fedor should get the title shot right? I’m done trying to understand the matchmaking process they have. Apparently a re-match in their minds is equivalent to neighborhood kids on the playground yelling “do-over!” And we go from talks of a Fedor/Overeem match being on PPV or CBS, to a Fedor/Werdum rematch on PPV or CBS. When we SHOULD be talking about Overeem/Werdum.

But nooooo. Just gotta milk that Russian dream cow a little bit more don’t we. Gotta make sure we milk the buckets full of eastern promises. Werdum beats the man who nobody thought could be beat, and instead of giving praise and credit where credit is due, we talk about Fedor bouncing back with a vengeance. Apparently, M-1 needs to recoup some finances the next go-round, otherwise we’ll be waiting on another contract dispute.

Don’t know where the money is going in Strikeforce, but if they only make a slim profit (if any at all) on their prize commodity, I wonder how much they make (or lose) on their other shows?

    Cung le vs dan henderson?

  • dbiz says:

Where’s the crying about Strikeforce needing to pay fighters more? Where is the outcry because one fighter received MORE THAN 50% of the payout for this card? Everyone who says the UFC underpays fighters needs to get their megaphones out because Fedor made more than the rest of the card combined.

1500 for a fight on Showtime. That is a disgrace. The entire undercard made less than half of what Scott Smith did. The entire undercard made less than 10% of what Fedor did.

That is a bigger problem than Rich Franklin getting 140k against Chuck or the fact that, except for old contracts, no one is making under 8k in the UFC. Where is the outcry?

    • bsbiz says:

Quit making sense and making logical arguments.

    • Justin says:

And lets not forget that it is well known that there is a history of Fedor being paid considerably more via payments to M-1 instead of directly to him. For example, when he fought for Affliction $1.2 of his $1.5 million payday went through M-1. Assuming that his Strikeforce contract is at least similar, Fedor/M1 alone got paid more than the live gate of the event.

    • jcohl says:

I guess if someone were really unkind, the position could be taken that without Fedor Strikeforce can’t really get many eyes on the product, and is paid commensurate to that fact.
But I’ll allow one of his supporters to make that case.
Also, Strikeforce has so very many problems IMO, that maybe unfair fighter payouts got lost in the shuffle?

And oh yeah, “Hey Scott Coker, open up your wallet a bit bro. When the light of day actually hits your folding green, the men on the money are blinking like a DUI driver with one of those long black cop flashlights in his face because its been so long since they’ve seen the light of day”.

Is that “outcry” enough for you dbiz?
      :-)

    Off the topic…

Former Strikeforce LHW champ Gegard Mousasi and UFC veteran “Irish” Jake O’Brien have verbally agreed to fight at DREAM 15 set for July 10th from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan,

  • HD322 says:

Fedor mine as well have just let Werdum start the fight in the guard cuz Fedor after landing that mini flury which dropped Werdum FEDOR JUMPED INTO THE TRIANGLE. He got so caught up in highlight reel finishes he forgot to just win the fight. Where he goes from here im not sure, but 30-2-1 is still an imposing record. He’ll come back!

  • Jason says:

Nothing against Frank Shamrock, matter of fact I respect him so much more with his decision to retire. But he says the he along with Scott Coker are all about the dream of MMA and taking care of these fighters. So lets get’em taken care of then.

On a side note, making $400,000 for 69 seconds worth of work is like….wow!
