Dan Hardy vs. Carlos Condit In The Works for October’s UFC 120 in London

Posted by on Jun 28, 2010 at 4:16 pm ET25 Comments

Recent welterweight title challenger Dan Hardy and former WEC champ Carlos Condit are expected to square off at UFC 120 on October 16 in London, MMA Weekly reports.

Hardy (23-7) had won seven-straight, including four-straight UFC wins over the likes of Marcus Davis and Mike Swick, before dropping a unanimous decision to 170-pound champ Georges St-Pierre at March’s UFC 111.

After losing a split decision to Martin Kampmann in his UFC debut last April, Condit (25-5) earned his first UFC win over Jake Ellenberger in September before scoring a third-round TKO of prospect Rory MacDonald at UFC 115 earlier this month.

nice work joe silva! thisi s a great match. But…unless hardy has realy improved his ground game and grappling, condit will take him down and keep him there. His jitz is really solid. Although, condit has a tendency to stand and trade when he shouldn’t so…who knows!

hardy is in the US right now doing wrestling training so hopefully he will improve. this is a huge oppurtunity for condit and a good fight for hardy to stop a rising contender and stay in top 5 discussion at ww. if condit can pull this off it will be 2 fights in a row where he has won in his opponents homeland. absolutley love this fight glad it is happening.

NOOOOOOO TWO OF MY FAVORITE FIGHTERS…. i would have much rather seen Hardy beat the hell out of Kampmann.

Damnit…. I want Condit to win though :)

  • vincent661 says:

    Condit all the way
In a boring 3 rounder haha
Either that or a standup war

  • Nooooo 2 of my favorite fighters also!…O well should be a good fight..Hardy by decision though is what prob is gunna happen..Kinda want Carlos to win though!

  • Evan says:

This is a tough call, Condit definitely has an advantage on the ground but he definitely likes to stand up and bang and that’s never a good idea when your in the cage with Hardy. I love Condit and hopefully Greg Jackson and co. will come up with a good strategy for this fight.

  • eddieko says:

Awesome fight….im a big Condit fan i see Carlos fighting a smart fight. He is gonna come with some good combinations and look for the takedown and dominate on the ground. The only chance the outlaw has is catching him when Condit decides to trade. I say Condit by decision.

Typical deal here in that the striker [Hardy] wins if he can keep the fight in the vertical plane, and the grappler [Condit] wins if he can get his opponent to the mat and keep him there.
Well done by Joe Silva IMO…

  • Jyri says:

I hope Wanderlei gets his ribs in order for October, ‘cos that would make a fine rematch for the Brits.

  • skdrcr says:

This is another possible fight of the year canidate for my boy Condit. I’m also a hardy fan as well and I see this one going to Condit via 3rd rd submission.

  • leo67 says:

i like condits chances but hardy stand up cud possibly dictate the fight. it only matters if condit can take him down, condit has hands but hardy has the k.o power. condit mite have it buh it has yet to be seen in the ufc decent matchup i think they shudda gave hardy kampmann that wudda bin way more interesting. condit vs swick?

  • jacob adam brooks says:

hardy all day… his takedown defense is better than people realize… gsp just makes everyone look bad. this will stay standing and Hardy will win

  • underhooks says:

Does anyone know when this event will be announced?

  • underhooks says:

Also, do we have an idea on Bispings opponent?

    • Avatar of jcohl jcohl says:

In theory if Nate Marquardt doesn’t take much damage against Rousimar Palhares at 118, and wins like he should, he could step in at 120 to face the Count.
Although that might be a bit more of a fight than Joe Silva is willing to sign for Bisping in London…

      • Jyri says:

UFC 118 is August 28 and UFC 120 is October 16th. That’s exactly 7 weeks… So Nate would more or less have to start training against Bisping before his match with Rousimar. So, sadly no.

But if Nate wins, they could face eachother early next year. Or come next year, Bisping could face the winner of the Damian Maia – Alan Belcher fight that’s in September… Or Nate could. And next winter we’ll have like two eventual losers from the Chael Sonnen-Anderson Silva fight and the fight between the winner of that match and Vitor Belfort. So there’s more names to be thrown around. But that’s next year. And then there’s Wanderlei. Man, 185 is looking really exciting! And those are just the “name guys” – there’s another half dozen great up and coming fighters in the division.

  • Avatar of Bradski Bradski says:

Condit’s best chance is by grinding out a decision. If GSP couldn’t submit Hardy with the holds that he had, then I don’t see Condit doing it either. Carlos does however have a solid camp with trainers that come up with grind-it-out style gameplans, so his chances might be pretty good (for eeking out a decision).

I guess the wild card is how much wrestling can Hardy learn before October.

  • skdrcr says:

Condit’s bjj game is superior to GSP’s. GSP was attempting submissions from the top position, condit will more than likely be attempting one off of his back if the fight goes there such as a triangle or guillotine. Imo, condit is one of the best fighters off of his back. He has the ability to inflict damage and not take a lot from there. That’s why I can see him submitting hardy.
