Former UFC lightweight champion and WEC veteran Jens Pulver and former UFC heavyweight title-holder Tim Sylvia will return to action on August 14 in featured bouts at “War on the Mainland” in Irvine, California, according to Sherdog.
After being released by the WEC following a five-fight losing streak, including a first-round submission to Javier Vazquez in March, Pulver will look to bounce back when he meets 4-1 Diego Garijo on the August 14 card.
After stopping five-time World’s Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski with punches in the second-round in May, Sylvia will face fellow UFC veteran Paul Buentello in the main event of “War on the Mainland,” which also includes Jason Lambert, Thales Leites, and Terry Martin.
The current “War of the Mainland” fight card features:
- Tim Sylvia vs. Paul Buentello
- Jason Lambert vs. Allan Goes
- Thales Leites vs. Falaniko Vitale
- Jens Pulver vs. Diego Garijo
- Terry Martin vs. Jorge Ortiz
- Gustavo Machado vs. Rick Reeves
- Joao Silva vs. Erin Beach

And this, dear friends, is why Pulver was cut from WEC. He talks retirement but won’t follow through, even when it is clear his days are behind him and he’s just there to get hurt.
people need to make a living……….
Jens had a pretty sweet deal being offered… this is more about him not being ready to hang it up.
i didn’t watch his fights but his last 4 lost were submissions its not like he’s been getting knocked out like chuck has.
he’s 1-7 in his last 8 with 2 losses by KO and 4 submissions… it’s time to consider hanging it up
dbiz – If you had no money and had a family to feed, you would be forced to come out of retirement to earn a paycheck!!
You need to watch the upcoming documentary “Driven” about Jenz Pulver.
You gonna tell me he couldn’t make money training fighters? Plenty of people with less impressive credentials than him do it all the time.
He wasn’t making bad money. He should have some level of security for his family. If he doesn’t, he has no one to blame but himself.
not to mention very strong rumors suggest he turned down a sweet “retirement” package
Anyone know if they are going to have this event as a PPV or televised on cable?
Ugh.
Does any know if Monte Cox has something to do with this “War on the Mainland”?
If he does he should be thrown a beating IMO, because in his heart he should know that Pulver stepping in is only risking serious injury, and Sylvia should be under a doctor’s care until he gets his head right and his weight permanently under control.
And where the He11 is Pat Miletich here in terms of looking out for his fighters??
Yes this fight will be on PPV check out the fight card:

It must be an ego thing; I watched a few of his last fights. Pulver just doesn’t have it anymore.
He could have mad great money with what Zuffa was offering; instead he chooses to keep fighting. Why?
This looks like a man succumbing to the demons of that horrible childhood, and its influencing him to make catastrophic decisions.
