Featherweight prospect Chad Mendes will look to remain undefeated when be battles Cub Swanson at “WEC 50: Cruz vs. Benavidez” on August 18 in Las Vegas, according to MMAWeekly.
Following a 5-0 start to his career, Mendes (7-0) earned a unanimous decision over Erik Koch in his WEC debut in March, then scored a first-round submission of Anthony Morrison at April’s WEC 48.
Swanson (14-3) has won 3 of 4 since suffering a 35-second loss to Jens Pulver in late-2007, most-recently rebounding from an 8-second KO to Jose Aldo with a third-round submission of John Franchi in the “Fight of the Night” at November’s WEC 44.
Mendes joins Team Alpha Male teammates Joseph Benavidez and Urijah Faber on the WEC 50 fight card, with Benavidez challenging bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz in the Verus-televised main event, while Faber drops to 135-pounds against Takeya Mizugaki in the card’s co-headliner.
