UFC 80: Kendall Grove Added To Card

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Oct 27, 2007 at 9:39 am ET8 Comments

The Ultimate Fighter 3 middleweight winner Kendall Grove will return to the octagon at UFC 80 in Newcastle, England to face a yet-to-be-named opponent according to Grove’s training partner and The Ultimate Fighter 6 castmember Troy Mandaloniz.

After entering the third season of The Ultimate Fighter with a modest 5-3 record Grove defeated Ross Pointon, Kalib Starnes, and Ed Herman to capture the TUF 3 title. He emerged as a rising contender in the middleweight division with back-to-back wins over Chris Price and Alan Belcher. Grove was handed the first setback of his UFC career in August when he lost to Patrick Cote by late-first round knockout at UFC 74. Despite the loss Grove remains a very legitimate threat in the thin middleweight division and a short win streak could earn the Hawaiian fighter a shot at the middleweight title.

Mandaloniz also reveals during the interview that he is currently training with Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas in preparation for a fight on The Ultimate Fighter 6 finale.

Right on! I like the “SPIDER”. He is a great fighter who has massive potential. I hoped he would beat Cote’, but it just showed how good Cote’ is, and that Grove is still young, but can fight.

  • Red says:

Once again I agree with you scotchydow. I think Grove should fight either Terry Martin or Chris Leben or Nate Quarry in his next fight. I can’t think of any other opponent that he may possibly fight. He fought Starnes on the show, he beat Belcher and he lost to Cote. Who else is out there?

  • scotchydow says:

I would love to see Groves jack Leben or Nate Quarry up. He may have a hard time with Martin’s size, but I think he could submit him.

  • holy_dave says:

I love Nate Quarry, but I do believe you all are right. That would be a good fight for both of them. Grove is coming off a loss, and Quarry is coming off avery unimpressive victory. Let them duke it out to see who goes up. Making of a good fight. I don’t think Grove is ready to fight Leben though.

  • Chris H says:

What a quality match up for da spyder against quarry or leben a win for any of them 3 would well boost their 185 ranking , hope ufc thinking of one of them match ups too!!!!!!!

  • Holy_Dave says:

I think Chris Leben is on a level above either Quarry or Grove. Leben is about as close to a contender we have in the MW other than Okami. I guess Leben vs. Macdonald, winner fights Silva, after he beats up on Okami. The only reason Leben isn;t fighting for the belt in his next fight is because his last fight with Silva makes that fight impossible to headline an event.

  • absolutely agree with all.
lol wat about silva vs arlovski? lol kiddng but this wuld sell.
silva vs silva /silva vs me? naa silva vs gsp

  • vinny says:

About the comment that nate quarry had an unimpressive victory …I’d say he did fairly well landing a big ko considering the fact that he just had a extremely serious spinal fusion surgery. Like to see him and grove fight.
