Bellator Signs Ron Sparks to Fight at Bellator 23 on June 24 in Louisville

Ron SparksUndefeated heavyweight and Kentucky native Ron Sparks has signed with Bellator and will debut in the local co-main event of next Thursday’s Bellator 23 event in Louisville, the promotion today announced.

“We are happy to have an up-and-coming heavyweight like Ron taking part in the Local Co-Main Event of our Louisville show,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said in a release. “Ron knocks people out and fans love to see that in the heavyweight division, so Ron should put on a great show for the fans in Louisville.”

A longtime boxer and kickboxer, Sparks improved to 5-0 last June with a unanimous decision over Jonathan Ivey, the first decision of his career following four-straight first-round knockouts, with the longest lasting just 67-seconds.

“The Monster” had been scheduled to fight fellow heavyweight prospect Bobby Lashley at Wednesday’s “Strikeforce: Los Angeles” before Lashley withdrew from the bout with a knee injury.

With a win, Sparks would likely earn a spot in Bellator’s season three heavyweight tournament that begin in August.

Bellator 23 is co-headlined by the middleweight tournament finale between Bryan Baker and Alexander Shlemenko and the featherweight tourney finale between Joe Warren and Patricio Pitbull.
