In what should be the end of Liddell’s legendary career, “The Iceman” finally regains consciouness and exits the Octagon for what likely the last time.
In his post-fight interview, Franklin reveals he broke his left arm blocking a kick earlier in the round, but fought on to score the KO.

Wow, Chuck looks shredded. I know Dana said he was in shape but it looks almost fake, like the Ice Man went out and got some lipo.
Can Ice Man bring the hurt 2 Ace like he wanted so desperately 2 do 2 Ortiz? Should be a good one. Math Teacher by Split
Close.
It was math teacher by nap…
The iceman does look in the best shape ive seen him in in a very long time but u can put muscles on a chin or increase your punch resistance and i feel franklin has the power to hurt Liddell :( and win via tko
wow that was bad.. BS
Wow, Mac Danzig got played.
that he did…
Just pimping my thoughts, so I don’t have to post them multiple times…

dunham has been very impressive imo. i thought he wasnt ready for griffin, but he showed otherwise.
how the heck did griffin get a 29-28? the first round went to him imo, it was close, but the second was all dunham, as well as the third. bad scoring by that judge imo.
Wow, split decision for Dunham, I like Tyson but I thought it should of been UD.
I missed the Danzig fight by 20 seconds. Can someone please inform me of what happened???
Wiman grabbed a guillotine, then Danzig tried to escape by rolling, but Wiman held on. Danzig had enough space to survive, but relzed and ref thought he went out and stopped the fight. Both fighters classy afterward, and I expect we’ll quickly see a rematch.
is anyone else haveing problems getting the PPV to play on UFC.com??
wooooooow Condit… talking about waiting til the last minute…
good stoppage??? questionable???
I think it was a reasonable stoppage. The rules don’t state that a fighter should be allowed to take a massive beating until the time ends if he’s leading going into the final round. It sucks that he lost that close to the bell but a lot of fights have ended like that. Not only that but even if the fight were allowed to have gone the rest of the time I think that was the definition of a 10-8 round and therefore the fight would have been a draw but it’d been clear who took a greater beating.
Both, if that’s possible. Stoppage itself was fine, but knowing there was only 7 seconds left it probably could have gone the distance. Would have been interesting to have it scored.
I get what you’re saying. In all honesty with a fighter being beaten that badly to end a round and knowing it should have been stopped we could have seen the elusive 10-7.
I’ve net counted out Condit in a fifty cause he fights till the end. Just like the Ellenberger fight, he was battered hard in the first round then came back strong to finish.
I hate my phone sometimes, I meant I never count out Condit in a fight.
Wow the fact that Rothwell is still breathing is amazing…
So NOW do we get Rothwell-Nelson 2?
I don’t think we will. I personally believe Nelson has evolved a lot since their meeting and is on another level. If he loses we could see this fight but only if Nelson loses. I’ve had to eat my words too many times on Nelson to ever count him out of fight. If I keep doing it I may end up looking like him.
Not sure how anyone could score that fight 30-27…
Yves Lavigne is gonna be on Dana White’s
s#!+list, just like Steve Mazzagati.
Dunham looked good; maybe he should
get the Pelligrino/Soitiropolis winner???
Take that Barry. Crop cop with the exciting finish!
Woooow talk about a fight I did not expect to end in a submission…
So does CroCop get SoTN?
;-)
haha well it’s definitely not Wiman-Danzig ;)
CRO COP!!!!!!!!!!
Great Job CroCop, I knew he could finish it via sub if it went to the floor. I’m not that surprised but considering CroCop was learning BJJ fom Werdum. Also, great job to Barry, couldhe put a fat hurting to CroCop in the first. Awesome fight.
I meant to write Barry did put a fat hurting on CroCop in the first but since he didn’t want to take CroCop to the ground I think it cost him a bit.
Oh and of course… Served…
Ouch!
;-)
I’m sorry… I think Barry is funny but it had to be done…
Pat Barry disappointed me… hell of a fighter/kickboxer…. just too too undersized height wise for the divsion… he falls into that category of guys who arent the “BIGS” of the heavyweight division aka lesnar, carwin…. if frank mir who bulked up only to lose to carwin is considering a potential drop to 205 (as reported by this webiste- dont kill the messenger) then there may be a need for another weight class… I personally dont really want another one, but it may benefit fighters who are right in the middle of that division.. you cant punish a guy for physically being good wheres he at! Just my though
dang that was a sick punch i thought liddell was looking decent until he got wrecked.
THAT was a sick KO. Rich hadled Chuck and I hope Liddell retires.
There seems to be a whole lot of “one step forward, one step back” going on tonite…
almost exactly how i thought that fight would end… I say this in a complete sincere and well-meaning way but can we please have Chuck retire now. This just hurts to watch.
Not as much as it hurt Liddell…
KOs don’t hurt that much… until the next day… ;)
Awesome! I couldn’t be happier for the underrated Franklin
Anyone underrating Franklin at this point is basically just eating the popcorn and not really watching the movie…
So in spite of all the MMA blogospheric chatter, Liddell’s decline didn’t have as much to do with his partying lifestyle and lack of MMA dedication as it does with the sport simply passing him by…
I’d honestly say it’s a culmination of both. The partying took him away from the sport at a critical time where he should have been developing new parts to his game. His rededication has happened too late after too much damage. You know as well as I do that in the fight game there is a more pronounced version of “too little, too late”
Just out of curiousity, how much “blame” does John Hackleman get for sending his man out to the cage time and again with a decade-old skillset?
Personally, when Liddell first started to slide I think Hackleman should shoulder a lot of the blame there for just thinking it was a small slip. There’s a reason that Dana got upset with Hackleman and Co., he wouldn’t call out two of his friends for no reason. I personally believe that the Wandi fight may have actually been the final turning point. I think winning that fight gave him just assurance that he “still had it” that he didn’t see he still needed to change.
Woooo!!!! Franklin! Liddell needs one more fight and no matter what happens in the fight he can retire. Tito vs Liddell – Not as a main event. After the fight he is done. Even though he has lost 4 straight fights he probably can still beat Tito.
It will be really interesting what Dana gotta say this time about chuck and what chuck will decide…..
Dana will say “Dude, you’re done. We’re friends and I can’t keep watching it…”
but why risk it? the fight serves no purpose for either fighter…
Not to the standings but it does on a personal level.
Chuck’s beat him twice… badly… and suppose Chuck fights him and loses? Then what? A rematch? End it for Chuck now…
Lets bear in mind that Tito Ortiz isn’t undergoing neck and back surgeries so he can keep re-hashing his old Liddell beef.
The guy is still young enough to make one more title run, if he can ever get his health where it needs to be.
What possible reason would he have for taking a Liddell fight??
Maybe because he was suppose to fight him in the first place. If he has lost to Liddell twice wouldnt he want to final beat him. Im just bringing this fight up. I have no true interest in this fight it was just an idea.
Ortiz was more trying to keep his name out there. TUF did wonders for his career the first time. It made him relevant again. I think that was his only motivation to fight Chuck and personally I think that they probably had a hard time getting Tito to agree to it. I mean his shirt was Team Punishment(his brand) and notably not Team Ortiz. You know that was negotiated and conceded to by the UFC to get him there.
Ortiz should probably ask for a rematch with either Randy Couture or Forrest Griffin if he ever makes it all the way back…
Chuck really didn’t need to push it that much……he would just win it in the 2nd round ez. I really respect chuck for putting his heart in the game, at least it wasn’t another boring main event.
Yikes.
KTFO’ed by a 185er with a busted wing…
agree and that was just chuck being a dumb……
Damn, I thought Chuck Liddell was gonna win this fight! He really dedicated himself to training and becoming a healthier person and got in better shape then ever before, I think his career in terms on big main event fights on payperview and challenging for the title is over, but he was definatly one of the best ever when he was in his prime. Thank you for what u have down for this sport, Chuck…
Apparently my message didn’t send. Anyways that totally ruined my birthday. I am a Liddell fan for life. I’d like to thank Chuck for the greatest fights I’ve witnessed both live and on TV you are a legend. You are and always be my hero. Liddell forever.
Who would’ve called a cro-cop sub & a franklin ko? I love chuck as a fighter in the day. He started as a wrestler and was moved by his trainer, white, & his sucsess to be a ko artist. Now he can’t change. I think he should be a coach. Teach striking & explain “killer instint!” You can’t teach it, but you can show it.
