UFC Returns to Germany for UFC 121 on November 13

After making it’s German debut last June with UFC 99 in Cologne, the UFC is reportedly set to return to the country on November 13 with UFC 121 at the 13,000-seat Konig-Pilsner Arena in Oberhausen, according to GroundandPound.de.

No fights have been reported for UFC 121, though German fighters Dennis Siver and Peter Sobotta, who both fight later this month, seem likely to appear on the card.

This is a somewhat risky proposition since certain portions of the German government have been none-too-friendly towards the UFC of late.

    Germany?
    Really?
I love beer and brats and blondes as much as the next guy, but this is a little silly IMO.
Why Germany when there are so many more MMA-friendly places to run, like Hawaii?
And if Dana feels he has to take the UFC global, then howzabout somewhere they appreciate MMA, like Brazil or Japan?
I know, I know, I’ve heard all the urban legends at least a dozen times about all the organized crime elements keeping Zuffa out, but at some point that noise gets real old, real fast.
    Business is business, after all.
Not to mention that people operating out of Las Vegas know a thing or two about how to deal with elements of organized crime, seeing as how they practically built Vegas out of the sand.

And even if Brazil and Japan are closed, how about South Korea?
Or Australia or Ireland or Scotland or pretty much anywhere else the UFC has received a warmer welcome than the home of the Volkswagen…

Good points but also remember that the largest population of American military (outside America) is based in Germany. Germany needs a new sport to get crazy about. I think that MMA interest will grow dramatically after a couple more events.

i too love beer and brats and some blondes and must admit it seems crazy but i think the fact that they didn’t do that well may be the reason they’re coming back as they want to ensure every country they’ve been to was a succes in the end, 1 of the main reasons i feel they did bad was because of the no under 18′s rule, they were so strict on that, i had to youse fake ID to get in, so maybe they want to give it a second shot and the ban of under 18′s will be gone this time?

Thank you for seeing the military community out here. UFC 99 was pretty much All US military. It was a chance for us to feel normal and it worked. For months all the bases had MMA fever. The sport is growing bigger than ever and thanks to Dana taking it to places that needs to be exposed to. Even if they are commerical fans. They are fans and make our sport bigger. WHy take it to countries that already are strong in MMA. I don’t know if you know but to some countries American MMA is a joke to them and why should Dana dance for someone who is not going appreciate their work. I understand Germany is so far away for most Americans, But thatnk you UFC for an amazing night. My family and freinds and i promise you the UFC made out that noght not only at the gate but with new fans. I can’t wait to do it again.

Having read the mail here, I think I am missing something.

I was at UFC 99, and it was a great success. It was sold out, atmosphere was great (not quite like the UK, but it is new to the German fans) and great fights (beer, bratties etc).

I saw lots of nationalities, not just US troops there.

Let’s not forget there is a large contingent of British troops here in Germany too, and we loved it. Half of my MMA club, who are Dutch, were there – MuaY Thai is huge in Holland and MMA is growing like mad.

Momentum is also really starting to grow in Germany and Belgium, a ban in Bavaria hardly reflects the spirit of a country, after all one state saying no in the US or Canada didn’t stop anyone.

Europe is ready for the picking, and Dana White knows that, with Germany within easy reach of both Western and Eastern fans.

I for one will be in Oberhausen (2 hours from Koln BTW) and hope to see you all there.
