Justino largely out struck Evinger from the opening bell of their bout last weekend, and landed plenty of heavy shots, before finishing the former Invicta FC champ in round three. But, since Evinger had her moments, and because she normally fights at 135, the result did raise some eyebrows around MMA. Especially since Evinger made it into the third round.
Well, recently Zingano was a guest on “The MMA Hour”, and the bantamweight contender had this to say about the fight (quote via MMA Fighting):
“This weekend I feel like I got to learn a lot watching this fight with Tonya, you know, seeing Tonya control the pace and seeing the fact that Cyborg had a handful with that girl, [which] I actually didn’t expect.” Zingano said.
“….I felt she did a pretty good job against Cyborg, and at least she’s tough, you know, at the very least. And watching that fight I was like, ‘Man, I have something for that, I have and answer to that,’ and for everything that didn’t work for Tonya. Watching that fight opened up my eyes to some things and it just made me more excited to get in there with that girl. I think the match up is one of the century and I have what it takes to take Cyborg down, if anyone does.”
How about that? Now, Zingano went on to say that she thinks a fight between her and Justino is “winnable”, and that she has her sights set on either Amanda Nunes, or “Cyborg”. Zingano is the last woman to beat Nunes, as she stopped the now, reigning bantamweight champ back in 2014.
But, since Zingano’s coming off losses to Julianna Pena and Rond Rousey, she’ll likely need to get a win, before either of those fights can become a reality. By the sounds of it, the UFC is looking at Holly Holm to be Justino’s next opponent. Nunes, meanwhile, is fighting Valentina Shevchenko on September 9th.
