Now that Cris “Cyborg” Justino is the UFC’s women’s featherweight champ, who could the Brazilian star face in her first title defense? Well, it sounds like Dana White’s looking at Holly Holm.
Justino put away a very game, but outgunned, Tonya Evinger at UFC 214 to lay claim to the vacant 145 title. The belt was up for grabs, after Germaine de Randamie refused to fight Justino was stripped of the title.
After “Cyborg’s” win, White reported the following, when asked about who the new champ might face next (quote via MMA Junkie):
“I was just talking to Holly Holm back there,” White said. “(I said,) ‘What do you think?’ It seems like she’s interested. I like Holly vs. Cyborg. I think it’s a good fight.”
Considering Holm is a former bantamweight champ, and that her loss to de Randamie (for the inaugural 145 belt) was controversial, this makes sense no? It’s certainly a fight that would sell.
It will be interesting to see if this bout gets finalized and for when.
