Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones have had plenty of heated exchanges leading up to UFC 214, but yesterday it was the latter’s brother, who had some choice words for the team of “DC”.
If you don’t follow football, then you might now know that Jones’ older brothers is Arthur Jones, who is a defensive tackle in the NFL. Well, apparently he was on the scene for yesterday’s weigh-ins in Anaheim, and somewhere along the way, he ran into the team of Cormier. A back-and-forth reportedly ensued, and Jones had this to say about the incident, while speaking to MMA Fighting:
“They were like, ‘The real champ’ and all this other bullshit,” Arthur Jones said. “After a while, I got annoyed. I was like, ‘Yeah, the paper champ.’ We started jawing back and forth. They just walked away. It really wasn’t nothing. People try to make a big thing out of nothing.”
“I would have ragdolled all six of them — for the record,” Arthur Jones said.
Yes, thankfully things didn’t get physical, as that’s not the kind of attention the UFC needs (although such an incident might have moved some extra pay-per-view buys…). Jones was also asked what he would have done if his younger brother’s rival, the 205 champ Cormier got involved, and Arthur said “I’ll slap his ass, too.” Chances are “DC” supporters would disagree with that assessment, although, Jones is reportedly 6’3 and over 300 pounds. So, he’s likely a dangerous dude.
Jones also told MMA Fighting that he’s upset that Cormier referred to Jon as a “junkie”, and made references about the latter and prostitutes, So, clearly this has gotten personal for Jones. Currently Jones is a free agent in the NFL, after playing for the Indianapolis Colts last year.
UFC 214 will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. In the co-main event, welterweight champ Tyron Woodley will take on Demian Maia.
