At a time when rumors are swirling around that Brock Lesnar is considering a comeback to the Octagon, Jon Jones has reported he’d like to fight the massive heavyweight, and the WWE star has responded…
On Tuesday, Jones held a Facebook chat with fans, in advance of his fight Saturday night with 205 champ, Daniel Cormier. During the session, Jones had this to say about facing Lesnar (quote via ABC):
“He’s a massive dude,” Jones said. “It would be a massive draw, really big for the sport. It would be a great challenge. That’s a big old boy. I doubt Brock Lesnar would take that fight, though. I definitely wouldn’t try to wrestle with him the whole time. I’m not going to tell you what I would do.”
Well, the Associated Press reached out to Lesnar, for a response, and the former UFC champ reportedly said this:
“Would I fight Jon Jones? Anytime, anywhere,” Lesnar said. “Right now he should be worried about D.C. on Saturday night.”
Wow. Now there’s no doubt that Jones should be focused on Cormier, and reclaiming the light-heavyweight title. But, you can’t help but speculate as to whether this a match-up which could exactly go down right?
Recently it was reported that Lesnar has re-entered the USADA testing pool, before UFC Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky, said that’s not the case. But, Pro Wrestling Sheet cited sources who say Lesnar plans to re-enter the pool, so he has options when his WWE deal is up.
A couple of years, most folks would have scoffed at the likelihood of Lesnar – Jones taking place. But we live in a new age, as a result of the UFC’s sale to WME IMG, and it’s been a slower year for the promotion. So, in other words, if Lesnar did in fact decide to return to the Octagon, and Jones was indeed, interested in that fight, could the UFC turn it down? Considering how huge it would be?
