I knew Paixao would win.. i saw him at WEC 47 and the dude has isane ground skills.. anyone know if there is an open grappling tourney or something like that for fans to enter at these expos?
I’m not sure about the “openness” of the tournaments, but they are put on in conjunction with Grapplers Quest.
They usually run tournemants the same weekend as these things. I do believe it’s something you qualify for. That said, this weekend they didn’t have one. Grappler’s quest does stuff all the time though just check out their sit for dates and locations.
thanks for the info Chris.. once these damnned lawns stop growing so fast ill have the time to start grappling with my buddy.. i have pretty much no grappling experience except for the drunken wrestling matches with my friends, but i seem to do pretty damnn good, so i think i would probably do even better with a clear head.. and if not ill just go to the tourny wasted :)
wouldn’t exactly reccomend going to any of those with out formal training though, I did one where the guy didn’t know what he was doing and he pretty much broke his own arm in three places trying to get out the armbar because he turned the wrong way.
@ chrisl – I know this is going to maybe qualify me as outright evil, but IMO if someone stumbles into a subgrap tourney and rolls without training they sort of deserve a broken wing, no?
;-)
anyone can compete. it was small compared to most tournaments GQ puts on. it kinda felt like an after thought.
