At a Tuesday press conference at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada, UFC President Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta announced the opening of a Canadian office headed by former Canadian Football League commissioner Tom Wright.
“The support that we receive from the fans and the media here is second to none,” said White. “Vancouver was our fastest sellout in history, and every other fight that we’ve held here has been a huge success. It’s time for UFC to show its commitment to this country, and prove that we are as passionate about our Canadian fans as they are about us.”
After serving as President of Adidas Canada for 11 years and CEO of Salomon North America for 2 years, the Canadian Wright was commissioner of the CFL from 2002 through 2006.
Wright will now lead the UFC’s push for sanctioning in Ontario with plans to bring future events to Toronto, which is consistently ranked as one of the UFC’s most-popular cities.
