There’s been a lot of talk and speculation in recent weeks as to who Francis Ngannou will fight next, and now we know it will be former champ, Junior dos Santos. The UFC has announced that the two will fight on September 9th, at UFC 215 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Ngannou has stormed his way up the heavyweight ranks, since he arrived in the UFC in 2015, by finishing all five of the opponents he’s faced. In his last outing, Ngannou took out former champ, Andrei Arlovski.
Dos Santos, on the other hand, has gone 2-3 in his last five bouts. It should be noted, however, that his losses have come against top tier competition in Alistair Overeem, Cain Velasquez, and most recently, current champ, Stipe Miocic.
So, clearly this is a huge bout for Ngannou. If he can defeat JDS, then a title shot will almost certainly come next.
