In the last week or so, there’s been a lot of talk about what could go down when Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather box. But, according to one of the latter’s trainers, he’s worried about McGregor getting up to some shenanigans.
The most common narrative out there right now, in terms of the fight, is that McGregor will be outclassed, unless, he lands one big punch. The vast majority of pundits, observers and other fighters seem to believe that because Mayweather is one of the greatest defensive fighters of all time, McGregor will struggle to hit the 40 year-old. As a result, the argument is, that McGregor might not get knocked out, but he’ll lose by decision…badly.
“One way I can see the fight ending is Floyd outboxing him, beating the crap out of him,” Jones said. “Another way I’m going to be concerned about is when Floyd gets to a point where he frustrates him too much, McGregor’s going to do something crazy. That’s the only thing I’m worried about.”
“I would be more concerned about this fight because Floyd’s a little older now. He’s 40 years old. McGregor has crazy weird power, and he’s got weird shots from weird angles. I’m worried about that. But for my prediction in the fight, is Floyd either confusing him and frustrating him and stopping him in the later rounds, or Floyd outboxing him, or (McGregor) doing something stupid and losing the fight. That’s my prediction.”
Now, considering how much money is on the line, and what legal actions might ensue of McGregor did do something “stupid”, this seems unlikely. It is interesting to see Jones reporting that he is concerned about McGregor’s power, although, one could argue that he’s saying this to promote the fight.
Mayweather – McGregor will take place on August 26th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
