One of the more intriguing match-ups set for UFC Fight Night 112 will feature Tim Means taking on Alex Garcia, not only because of each man’s abilities, but because of the lead-up to the fight.
The welterweights will battle on the main card of Sunday’s event, which will take place in Oklahoma City. Recently, Garcia reportedly said he plans to trade with Means, and that he believes he’ll score an emphatic win, while talking to MMA Junkie Radio.
Well, when Means asked about those comments, while speaking with Bloody Elbow, “The Dirty Bird” had this to say:
“We all know that dude is not going to stand with me,” Means said. “He’s going to come out, throw a couple of punches, he might hit me, but he’s going to get hit and then he’ll start shooting takedowns. Everybody knows that.”
“It shows in all my fights. Everybody talks a big game about standing in front of me and it never pans out. We’re expecting the overhand right to the single leg and we’ve got answers for that and my footwork and my pace are going to break his gas tank. Bottom line. And if he stands in front of me for any part of that fight he’s going to get caught. He’s going to get caught repeatedly. I think I’m the most dangerous unranked fighter in the UFC, by far…”
There’s no question that Means is a dangerous fighter. Case in point, in four of his last five wins, Means has scored a TKO, KO or submission. Further, the FIT NHB fighter has drawn praise for his diverse striking, as Means has nasty punches, kicks, elbows and knees.
Garcia, meanwhile, is coming off a KO win over Mike Pyle, and has scored finishes in three of his last five wins. So, it will indeed be interesting to see what approach the Tristar fighter takes against Means.
UFC FN 112 will be hosted by the Chesapeake Energy Arena. In the main event, Michael Chiesa will take on fellow lightweight contender, Kevin Lee.
