Bellator President Scott Coker is well aware that the UFC and Conor McGregor are going to make a boatload of money, by having him box Floyd Mayweather. But, the veteran promoter’s raising concerns about their decision to move forward with the fight.
Recently Coker spoke to MMA Fighting about the highlight anticipated, Mayweather – McGregor fix, and he offered this take on the situation:
“Obviously, it’s gonna be a big money maker for everybody and that’s why they’re doing it. But you’re putting your fighter in harm’s way, so what’s the long term impact on that? I’m not sure. But I’ll tell you this: It’ll be a lot of fun to watch.”
“….It’s gonna be a great spectacle and a lot of great promotion going back and forth. I think Mayweather is a fighter that even Canelo couldn’t even hit or event Pacquiao couldn’t even hit. So, I think Conor has his hands full. But you never know in a fight, right? Who knows? Sometimes someone can get lucky.”
Mayweather has gone 49-0 to date and is widely considered to be one of the greatest boxers of all time. McGregor, while being a UFC a lightweight champ, has never fought in a pro-boxing bout. As a result, the consensus among folks who know a thing or two about fighting, believe that Mayweather is a huge favorite to win the bout. Some observers, particularly pundits from the boxing world, believe McGregor has little to no chance of winning.
Others, however, would argue that since Mayweather isn’t known as a heavy puncher, McGregor will likely be okay, even if he’s badly outgunned.
The upcoming, all-star fight will take place on August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
