Just watched a 5 minute story on Sportscenter about NFL players attempting to try MMA.

High-lighted Bobb Sapp, Johnny Morton, some Westbrook guy who used to play on the Redskins, and they had video of him Ground N Pounding a former resdskins team-mate on the practice field. The guy he was hitting didn’t have a helmet on, pretty brutal.

Dana White and Randy Couture were featured in the piece as well, pretty interesting.

Watching Franklin stand toe to toe with Silva was amazing. I thought Franklin would be very tentative. Franklin has got some big balls to do what he did last night. When he kind of took down Silva, I thought he might ground and pound the victory in the first round. I feel really bad that Franklin lost; what other fights are there for him?

I guess a fight with him and Marquardt has to happen, but besides that, there is no fight for him out there in the UFC besides Silva. For all Franklin fans like me; we just have to hope and pray that Okami pulls off the upset against Silva because Franklin can regain his title by beating Okami.

  • Holy_Dave says:

Please don’t let Tim Sylvia get that belt again. The UFC needed Fedor a lot worse than they thought. Now, the HW division is crap. Cheich and Sylvia might just be too of the most boring fighters I’ve ever watched.

  • FixXeR says:

Sylvia is a great fighter. He has had a couple boring fights….he is the most dominating heavyweight in the UFC now that Randy is gone. I dont see how people dont like such a dominate fighter…. is it how he looks?? I am really baffled on why people think he is overrated. Somone help me out on this.

  • Accomando,

Ex-Chicago Bears Defensive End Alonzo Spellman also is doing MMA. Highlights of his career are his spastic schizo outbreaks at his apartment when he pulled knives on people in psychotic rages because he didn’t take his meds. Talk about a guy I wouldn’t want to fight because he may pull a shiv out of his shorts.

  • FixXeR says:

I agree with everything you said Red…but as a big Franklin fan…I am glad he lost to Silva rather than a duechbag like McDonald or something. I would hope Franklin would consider moving up or down in weight

  • FixXeR says:

I seen that thing on ESPN too. Everyone wants to come over to MMA now. The only person in the NFL that I think stands a chance in the UFC is referee Ed Hakulee….have you seen that old mans guns?? hhaha

  • gipper says:

fixxer…you fuk. why are you calling macdonald a duechbag?

  • SpWedle says:

Lesnar been signed to the ufc. This could make things interesting.

  • SpWedle says:

Wanderlei Silva was suppose to annouce his opponet at 77, did anyone hear who it’s gonna be?

  • FixXeR says:

Well Gipper, first off, thanx for the compliment…and if I offended you by calling McDonald a duechbag..then my bad. He in my opinion is not a good fighter…and he looks funny….yep thats my reasoning about calling him that. I know it doesnt matter what he looks like or how he acts..but everyone has one person that they cant stand to look at or just doesnt like the way they act for no particular reason…..for example…. the world…and Tim Sylvia.

  • Holy_Dave says:

I dislike Tim Sylvia because he isn’t a 100% kind of fighter. He looked pretty good on Saturday. Like when you show up for one fight (Vera), but completely suck and still win because you’re big (Monson), then I don’t like you. He seems to think he’s unbeatable when he’s the champ, but otherwise he tries to act humble. Pick a persona and stick to it. Also, he is really ugly.

  • Steve says:

Franklin has a bad habit crunching his head down when in tight. This helps against heavy hands, but is disaster against tall knees like Silva’s.

Franklin just can’t beat this guy on the feet and couldn’t keep him on the ground where his strength would help.

  • FixXeR says:

Holy_dave, yeah his last few fights have sucked…there were no knockouts and not that exciting. You must be fairly new to watching the UFC. Please go back and watch some of Tim Sylvia’s past fights and you will see he is an exciting fighter. He is very well skilled and his for his size thats exciting. Watch the Sylvia Cabbage fight….that was a great one. Pat Militech sees something in him, and Sylvia has beaten proven opponents…what else does everyone want from him?

  • FixXeR says:

Tim does not look like a fighter…I think that is why people hate him….its sad.

  • canuck says:

I spoke to Wanderlei (we stayed in the same hotel) before the fights last night – he said that he’d be announcing that he’d be fighting “chucky” in december last night. the announcement never came, but i’m sure it will, there was no doubt in his mind. (and i’m not one to argue with Wanderlei Silva

  • #16 – Interesting news. I think DirecTV might have killed the UFC’s announcement so they went with the Lesnar news instead. We will see.

  • Josh Savage says:

I can’t wait to see Brock Lesnar in the UFC. He has unbelievable strength and an agrression that is rare. The guy is a monster and I believe he could be the next champion. I’ve seen his training videos and he is a beast. I know he has been working on his stand up too.

  • scotchydow says:

List of fighters I can’t stand for no real good reason-
Kevin Randelman- Sure you’re not on roids
Sean Sherk- Sure you’re not on roids part deux
Ken Shamrock- would you please go away already
Matt Serra- The biggest “chickenhawk” in MMA (also looks like he has HIV or something)
Nate Quarry-I have no reason at all(but when he gets KOed he locks up nicely)
Robbie Lawler- What’s with the Cro-Mag head dude?
(Old School)Paul Varlens- I loved watching “Tank” Abbot laugh while he crushed “the Polar Bear’s” skull.
There, I think I pissed enough people off to reach my quota.
P.S. Oddly enough, I think Sylvia is WAY more skilled than people give him credit for.

  • _Shorty says:

It doesn’t matter what Tim Sylvia *can* do, or used to be able to do, if he doesn’t do it now. I don’t care what he’s done in the past. I want to see an exciting fight. I don’t want to see middle-school-slow-dancin’, I’m sorry to say. Tim’s fights used to be something to look forward to, because they were actual fights, with people fighting each other. Now, that is not the case. He can’t fight anymore, for whatever reason. I see that once again he’s using the excuse of injury/injuries as to why his performance was horrible. Give it up. Either come and fight, or stay the #!@$ home. Quit wasting our money and time.

And speaking of wasting our money and time on fighters who can’t fight, let’s NEVER see Jorge “You’re the best, Rich!” Gurgel again, please! It’s bad enough we have to look at him in Rich’s corner being the yes-man of the millenium, but do we have to see him try to fight? He sucks when it counts. I don’t care how good he is at training in the gym. Fight night, he chokes or something, or else is just plain bad. Everyone’s always talking about what a technician he is, and this and that. And every time he fights, it’s like he thinks he’s training rather than fighting. Another one that can just stay home for all I care. He doesn’t have the mental game to go in there apparently, even if he does have the physical game. If he must fight in the UFC, stick him in the preliminary bouts that go unaired, and leave him there. Making anyone pay to see him is a ripoff.

  • FixXeR says:

_Shorty… who are you a big fan of? Chuck Liddell? Rampage? Fedor? Everyone of those guys have had boring fights. This sport is about winning….not impressing the fans. I like knock outs too…..but I enjoy the skill and the fights. I enjoy watching two men that are equal fighters battle it out and even if it is a stalemate…it is good. If you want to see a knockout or finishing move everytime…watch the WWE. This is real fighting, real skill…..not entertainment….enjoy the art of fighting.

  • _Shorty says:

You’re missing the point entirely. Tim Sylvia hasn’t been fighting lately. I don’t know what you’d call it, but it’s definitely not fighting. I’ve been watching the UFC since its inception, I’m well aware of what a good fight is, and is not, thank you very much. You’ll notice nowhere did I say “Where was the knockout? Without a knockout it isn’t a fight!” or anything of that sort, whatsoever. Tim hasn’t been showing any skill or art lately. He’s barely even showing up. And if you think he is, well…

  • FixXeR says:

I think he has been fighting defensively rather than offensively. I didnt mean to attack ya dude if thats what it sounded like, my bad. I just think that people do not like Tim Sylvia and think that he is overrated when in fact he is by far not overrated. Most fighters out of the MFS are badasses and he is no exception. I hope to see what happens in his next fight. Sylvia does a lot of counter striking, and is much more successful against offensive fighters, like Arvloski, Cabbage, Mcgee. Sylvia can take a lot of punishment and he uses that to his advantage, so I do think he is bringing it…at least as much as the people he fights. I dont hear anyone booing Vera, or Muson.

  • _Shorty says:

He just seems to have lost that fire. I used to think it was because of his back injury, but now that his surgery’s done and he reports it was successful, well, I don’t know how to explain his poor showings of late. Yeah, Vera didn’t put up much of a fight, either. He did break his hand, so rounds 2 and 3 I guess you could excuse. But even round 1 was yawnsville, so, it can’t be blamed entirely on the hand. I honestly thought it was going to be a really good fight. Tim was supposed to be healthier than ever, and in better shape than he’s been in in a long time. And Vera usually puts in a good effort. Was just disappointing all around, for whatever reasons. Tim’s a bad, bad man when he wants to be. Wouldn’t mind seeing *that* guy again, but he’s disappeared from what I can tell.
