Four grappling superfights featuring the likes of Caol Uno, Hermes Franca, Javier Vazquez, and Fredson Paixao will take place at the UFC Fan Expo on May 28 and 29 in Las Vegas, the UFC today announced.
On Friday, May 28, ADCC women’s champion Penny Thomas takes on MMA veteran Shayna Baszler, while former UFC contender Hermes Franca faces Bill “The Grill” Cooper, who defeated Joe Stevenson at the inaugural UFC Fan Expo last July.
Then, on Saturday, May 29, recently-released UFC lightweight Caol Uno battles WEC featherweight and four-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion Fredson Paixao, while Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belt and WEC 145-pounder Javier Vazquez meets 23-time Grapplers Quest champ Jeff “Pipelayer” Glover.
The second annual UFC Fan Expo, which coincides with “UFC 114: Rampage vs. Evans,” includes many UFC, WEC, former PRIDE, and Hall of Fame fighters, exhibits from more than 200 companies, and MMA training sessions.

Last year Stevenson and Sato, this year Uno and a newly-retired Franca. Usually they step things up the second time around.
This may be a bit out there, but I wonder if Josh Barnett would be welcome at one of these grappling expos, seeing as how he’s been on a catch-wrestling revivial tour in several grappling tourneys this year, and done well in almost all of them…
Depends on if he needs to pee in a cup, I suppose…
he’d have to find someone to face, as I can’t see Dana allowing some of top bigs roll around with a guy accused of taking ‘roids… again. Top heavyweight grapplers not under contract with the UFC or another top org are kind of in short supply.
