Robbie Lawler returned to the UFC and pounded his way to a welterweight championship with the help of American Top Team, so when it was revealed “Ruthless” is no longer with the Florida camp, plenty of folks were surprised. So why did Lawler leave?
Well, on a recent episode of the 5ive Rounds Podcast, Lawler outlined why he split from ATT…sort of. When asked about his decision to leave the renowned gym, Lawler reportedly said this (quote via MMA Fighting):
“It was time for me to go. It wasn’t the place for me. I have a lot of friends and buddies still training there but the place wasn’t for me any more and that’s what I have to say about that.”
Lawler has been training at the Henri Hooft led Combat Club to prepare for his July 8th bout with Donald Cerrone. If you’re not pumped to see that fight, well, you may need to examine why you watch MMA to begin with…
