As many expected would be the case, a back injury has forced Cody Garbrandt out of a scheduled, July 8th scrap with TJ Dillashaw. According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Dana White has informed him that the UFC is hoping to have Dillashaw battle flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson in August.
Johnson is coming off a submission win over Wilson Reis in April, and in doing so, he tied Anderson Silva’s title defense record of 10.
When Dillashaw floated the idea of facing Johnson, not long ago, the flyweight champ relayed he wasn’t on board with the idea.
Garbrandt hasn’t fought since he took the 135 title from Dominick Cruz, via unanimous decision, in December.
